Title: A Brief History
Post by: V M on July 20, 2014, 07:46:55 PM
I have an appointment coming up with a new endo this week, I'm very nervous about it because it will be like starting over again

Because I am better at typing than I am at talking I've printed up a letter for him and would like to get some opinions on it

There are some things I don't really like to talk about and even live in denial of but here it goes...

QuoteI have always been rather feminine. When we we were children my mother would give my sisters and I baths together. One day my sisters had gotten new dresses and I mentioned that I wanted a new dress also. They made fun of me and told me I couldn't have one and pointed out that I was different

I was shocked and dismayed and felt very upset. I was also told that I would have to take my baths alone from then on and my folks told me I had to stop acting like a girl and they were going to "Toughen me up" and so started a hellish home life. I first attempted suicide at 10 years old by trying to hang myself from the front yard tree

I began to develop small breasts during Jr. high school and had a rather girlish figure, and so started the harassment at school

In high school the harassment intensified and I was raped in the locker room showers. The coach noticed that I had quit taking my showers and chewed me out saying he was going to stand there and make sure I took one. I thought okay, the boys wont get me with the coach standing there... But then he walked away and they immediately came after me again... But the coach was being tricky and he came back and caught them

Coach told me I could shower in the coaches facility, but then the other coaches soon became uncomfortable about that and I was dismissed from the physical ed. program all together

The coach informed my folks as to why I had been dismissed and my step dad started teaching me the martial arts he had learned in Vietnam and that did help considerably

I began to put on a 'Tough Guy' act to appease my folks and to ward off bullies, but it was all an act and the dysphoria continued to intensify and life was hell and I began drinking. The only release I had was cross-dressing and often did so in public - I just want to be me and feel comfortable in my own skin

In my early 40's I got myself a computer and started going online, I learned that transitioning was actually possible and began my journey to transition and have visited various transgender support sites and have frequented one in particular for several years now

Well, that's the long and the short of it, I hope that you will be able to help me continue my journey to completion

Hugs

- Virginia

Short and to the point. I think it needs no changes or anything. I hope this endo appointment goes well for you.

Virginia, I am sorry you had to endure and were sexually assaulted, hugs.

Perhaps expanding on how HRT has improved your quality of life and expand on the intangible benefits would help the Doctor better understand how HRT is crucial for your well being.

Definitely this. Do everything you can to establish medical necessity.

Something to think about: does your state have mandatory reporting requirements for medical professionals who have been made aware of sexual abuse or other such crimes where the victim is a minor?  A letter stating you were raped as a child might fall under the category of something they are obligated to report to the authorities.

True, and the Dr.s here are obligated to report illegal activity

I edited it to say
QuoteIn high school the harassment intensified particularly in the locker room showers

The good news:

All of my whoas and worries and grumpy mood were all unwarranted

I just got back from my appointment and everything went fabulously well  8)  The Dr. couldn't have been more kind and understanding and I've got my new script in my hot little hand  :)
