Title: Is anyone here on Massachusetts state health care?
Post by: Sybil on July 22, 2014, 05:15:31 PM
It was announced on I think June 20th that they'll be paying for GRS for us. The question that comes to my mind is, what surgeons do they cover? I think there are no GRS surgeons in MA.

I e-mailed the lady who handles a lot of stuff for Marci Bowers with insurance, and she essentially told me I'd have to jump through all these hoops involving my primary care physician and contacting the insurance to see if they'd cover out of network. It was a bit confusing.

I really wish I knew what kind of options I had with Massachusetts. Does anyone know anything?

Hey Sybil,

I have the same issue with my insurance provider in Vermont. I just don't know the answer to all of this... there are no GRS surgeons for MTFs in Vermont, so I don't know how it's going to all work out.

I think the first step though is to get on the Gender Identity Rider program on your insurance policy and then see what options they give you. This is what I'm working on right now (I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield). I can post what I find out...

I do not think most states that are now changing the rules and now come next cycle of ACA have a clue what they are going to do about doctors and payments.

Most states do not have GCS doctors and sorry i would not want to be some doctors first cut.

They need to come up with some type of out of state funding. Other question will the top doctors deal with insurance companies?

So its back to will they choose your GCS doctor or will you?

Keep a update on this for others.
