I tend to post whenever I have some worries or questions, so maybe I'll balance things off by posting something positive for a change.

One of the things when I started looking at going on HRT that I wasn't so interested in was softening of the skin. I didn't have anything against the idea, I just didn't think it was a very interesting or significant effect so I never gave it any though.

But now that my skin has softened, holy moley do I like it a lot. I like being soft to the touch and it was made more concrete than ever before when I woke up today and I brushed my arm against my face before I could really figure out what was going on. Just feels so incredibly nice.

Did any of you have this or any other effects that you didn't think would be that big of a deal, but then when it happened it turned out to be really huge?

Yes, the softer skin is a great thing!

I'm surprised by the way my body hair has really softened and grows so slowly now.

the hair growth thing is so great. I don't have to shave my legs much. I use to have a very hairy chest, now there's nothing

Soft skin is sooo good.  When I feel like I am getting nowhere, I just rub my hand down my forearm and cheek.

I was talking about transition to some students, and one (a girl) asked to feel.  I ended up having three students poke and pinch my arm.  They were stunned- one said it really drove home how transwomen really are rewriting ourselves.

The soft skin does feel so nice. What I've also found is that my skin has gotten really sensitive too. I am now more ticklish in many parts of my body than I was before.

I found the same reaction.  I had not thought that the skin softening would be important.

Now I find that letting my hands run over my belly, arms, or face melts away any dysphoria I might have.

I completely agree with this. When I started E, this was not on my mind. However over time my skin has changed and body hair thinned.
My skin is so different to before in such a good way.

It is so soft and sensual which is such a turn on to me.
It really reminds me of the changes I am going through and reinforces how I feel.
I really am finding I want to look after it.

As it was unexpected it is such a bonus. :)

It does take time but is so good.

Yes, that's right... I suddenly want to look after my skin too.  The effort is actually, finally, for the first time in my life, worth it!

I have gone from using lotion daily to not using it at all, i love having softer skin, just wish body hair would stop growing, leg and underarm hair seem to grow faster than before, how long have others have found it takes for body hair growth to slow and chest hair to stop growing, im on a high ish dose of spiro, average ish dose of estradiol and regular dose of finasteride

I started shaving legs and arms a couple of months before starting HRT - Every 4 days like clockwork would require another shave so after months and months it was a regular habit - At about the six month mark I noticed that I didn't really need the shave at 4 days any more - Now I am usually at a week before I even notice it and almost 2 weeks before I am at the point of NEEDING to shave

I already have pretty soft skin, but I'm hoping it becomes softer and that I get that porcelain, translucent skin too.  I use to have pretty translucent skin, lighter color and all - plus I'm still pretty pale - so I hope it happens...

I feel like I have bad luck though, so I'll probably get acne or something when I start HRT.  Trying to stay positive though, so I'm gonna try to think only happy thoughts from here on...

I used to have really have bad acne the first time around with puberty. This time round I've had a few zits initially from dead hairs post laser being trapped under the skin and when the peach fuzz first started to grow from my forehead. Pleased to report no more zits now. Regular skin exfoliation and moisturising afterwards helped to sort it out for me.

If anything, with plenty of estrogen flowing through your body through HRT and the lack of excess oil produced from the skin as a result, I'd be quite surprised if you break out in full fledged teen acne.

Oh, yes. It seems to be much less tolerant of punctures. Oh well, give and take.

I'll be pissed.  I had acne for A LONG time, but over the last year it totally cleared up everywhere and I have full on blemish free skin.

My skin went from oily to combination in a very short time and zits are now uncommon.  My pores have shrunk too- especially on my nose.  I have to switch moisturizer this week... mines for oily and is just not cutting it these days.

This keeps getting better!

I've been on hormones for many years and my skin is dry and hard looking. I have tried moisturising regularly. Also my skin is more thinner and looks more pale less healthy than it did before.
