Title: Tall Girl Fashion
Post by: Boo Stew on August 10, 2014, 05:21:34 PM
I've said so elsewhere but I'm 36 years old and 6'2". No matter how cute the clothes are if they don't fit right, they're no good at all. So, I struggle at times to find cute/trendy fashions in a suitable length especially when it comes to dresses and skirts. So far I've had pretty good results at ASOS in their tall section. H&M usually has a bit of extra length compared to something like FOREVER/LOVE 21 too. I can get away with shorter looks but that requires pairing them with leggings or tights which isn't always the look I want. My question to all the tall babes here is, where do you get your clothes?  8)

I tried LONG TALL SALLY but I only ended up liking one dress enough to keep it.

This is something I'm wondering too since I'm the same height. Hope some girls chime in!!!

Alloy Apparel is good for pants, but I've haven't liked any shirt I got from them.  Banana Republic and Gap offer tall sizes and their pants and tops are generally good.

Other than that, sleeveless (or 3/4) tops, shorts and skirts don't really discriminate against tall people, unless you get short torso shirts, which happens.

Weirdly enough I have found it a lot easier to find female clothes that fit than I ever did male.

I assume you meant to write shirts and not skirts in the above? Because I have midi skirts that hit above the knee on me when they're designed to hit well below it, etc.

I share your frustration.  6'4" here and I think I've pretty much given up on dresses as they are always too short.  You could try buying a maxi style dress and having it hemmed.  Old Navy and JC Penney (maybe not your style) do offer tall styles on line at a lower price point than Long Tall Sally so they may be worth a look.

I've found most places carry tops that are long enough in the torso, just have to stay away from long sleeves as they are never long enough.

I am 6 feet (184 cm), but no problem when I purchased in the US. All jeans, skirts and one-piece dresses fit comfortably to my body. Here in my country, the length could be shorter, but no serious problem, except one-piece dresses. Some are too short. In any case, you can wear any miniskirt regardless of your height. Me, yesterday.

But, in some cases, the dresses can look too short. My wife does not allow me to wear the following dress outdoors, as it looks too short.

This might be a good place to post a link to an article I ran across recently with tips for how to dress to look shorter. The only tip I wasn't keen on was the idea of giving up skinny jeans. I'm long waisted, though, so making my legs look longer kind of balances things out. I just need to shorten my upper half.

Hello, fellow Nonconformants.

I happened across this article (http://"http://fashion.about.com/od/tallsizes/a/10tallwomenfashiontips.htm") about tall fashion.  I found their hints very helpful and interesting, especially the part about using our height as an accessory.

Toodles from TN,

QuoteUse Oversized Accessories

Don't be afraid of carrying a giant bag or wearing thick arm bangles. Unlike your shorter friends, oversized accessories won't make you look like you're playing dress up with your mom's clothes. Pair a thick belt with a shift dress or a big bag with a tank top and jeans. Just limit yourself to one oversized accessory per outfit in order to avoid looking clownish.

Yes. I like big bags!

QuoteShow Some Skin

You've got a lot of skin on your long body, so you might as well use it to your advantage. The trick is to play it up without looking skanky. Focus on showing off one area at a time. For instance, if you wear a backless top, pair it with a longer skirt or jeans. This way you'll grab attention without stopping hearts.

Yes. I show some skin, too.

When exercising, I tend to reveal excessively.

QuoteThink Bright

Add a splash of color to your façade each day. Color adds interest to an outfit, and a woman wearing color exudes confidence. You don't have to add much, just throw on a turquoise necklace with your brown jacket or wear red heels with your little black dress. Color can also draw attention to your favorite assets, so if you love your narrow waist, wear a bright belt.

Yes. I sometimes add red to my dark skin and black clothes/shoes.

So, did I tend to learn fashion tips for tall women by instinct?
