Title: Cycling estradiol dosage - with pills?
Post by: lostnostalgist on August 10, 2014, 10:02:24 PM
so i had an idea and i thought i'd get an opinion here before i run it by my doctor (yes i have a prescription)

i've always heard that injectables are more effective, and recently i heard someone say why they think that is: because the amount of estrogen in your body cycles, and when you inject at first there is a much higher estrogen level in your body. i think its kind of like "kick starting" development.

so my thought is, why not do the same with tablets? for example take the first 2 days of the week, then (less) for the next 2 days and then (less) for the rest.

i'm taking it sublingually, so in theory it shouldn't be too hard on the liver, although my doctor says you usually swallow most of it anyway. the effect on the liver is more long term anyway, isn't it?

the thing is for me i'm already on (a high dose) so i'd be taking more than at the beginning of the week. is this risky or no?

I've cycled my HRT since I first started.
28 days of taking my pills, then 3 days of not, then 28 days.
Whether or not its done anything to help I'm not sure, I do know that my moods mirror that of a cis-female around the 28th,29th days

If you take your pills sublingually, then levels will fluctuate a lot already from one hour to another, especially the first few hours. Depends on how many times you take tablets sublingually.

When I asked my Endo exactly the same question about cycling, he asked me, "was I considering falling pregnant?" ........... ( I cheekily replied, "Can you do that to?")

As he is a very knowledgable Endo, he explained that's why women's hormone levels fluctuate. Their body is just getting ready for the next fertility cycle. Nothing more, nothing less. Nature, at its best. He then shut me up and put me on an E and P implant so I could receive a consistent and persistent supply of hormones.

Worked for me.

I agree that hormones increasing in the second phase of the cycle is just due to preparation for pregnancy and mimicking that makes no sense...but I also heard that too constant levels might perhaps desensitize cells over time. Just my 2 cents...as always, consult with your doctor. ;)

I been on HRT for 14 years now and cycling was talked about back when I first started and through the years.

If it held benefits today it would be standard HRT practice.

!or?

My levels have never been constant. They peak on insertion to over 3,000 pmol/L but then 18 months later when they've fallen to 800 pmol/L I'm in for another hit. Seems to be the way of most implant users.

18 months later, that's a long time! would have been more interesting to note levels from one month to another. Pellets tend to deliver more stable levels than injections, that's for sure.

With 3 month regular visits complete with blood tests, it does appear to be a relatively linear degradation.

oh, thanks mod. the only reason i mentioned the dose is because its pretty much the maximum of whats prescribed, otherwise i wouldn't be worried about going over.

No dosages posted here anytime.

You should be asking your doctor these questions.

In doing so you are asking others to act as doctors and it would fringe on the edge of self medication due to changing out how you take your medication was prescribed.

It is dangerous for you and also for who ever gives you answers.
