Title: Non-binary theory
Post by: Kira Phoenix on August 12, 2014, 04:15:43 PM
I have been thinking about my gender identity for a very long time...for a while I always considered myself to be a transgender woman, but recently, I have considered myself not only a transgender woman, but also bigendered as well. Consider this:

What if we as people, instead of having one singular identity, we had a dominant gender identity, and a minor gender identity? For example: I consider myself mostly female. However, there are still aspects about me that are male and I will not be able to change this. For that reason, although I prefer female pronouns because I mostly identify with the female gender, however I still feel as if part of me is male as well and that will never change.

I am curious to know what everyone else's thoughts are on this.

Why can not one be female with also some male traits and just drop the labels

I agree with you both.

When did we start making our genders based on our character and personality?

I'm actually a little on the GQ side, but ID publicly as a woman simply because it's easier. I have some traits still that some might consider 'manly' - but it's not enough to consider it an 'identity' of it's own, it's merely a part of who I am..

I have a nasty suspicion that assigning 'traits' their own 'identity' is a road to hell..

The thought of myself being at all male bothers me on a deep level.

I suppose that this is an attempt on my part to try and make sense of the dysphoria I suffer from....

I believe that most people are binary - that they have had a gender identity and a body that matches and generally don't think twice about it.

But the experience of living with a gender identity that doesn't match either our bodies or our presentation is experienced in a variety of ways. Some of us feel genderfluid, bigender, agender, third gender, two-spirit, androgynous, while others feel like a binary member of our identified gender.

There are many posts in the non binary section from those of us who experience gender in multidimensional ways
