Convicted national security leaker Chelsea Manning isn't receiving medical treatment for her gender identity condition as previously approved by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, the American Civil Liberties Union and Manning's attorney said Tuesday. The ACLU and Manning's civilian attorney, David E. Coombs, on Tuesday notified the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks in Fort Leavenworth and several defense department officials, including Hagel, that a lawsuit will be filed if military officials do not confirm by Sept. 4 that the treatment will be provided for Manning.

Medical treatment should be a basic right.  This isnt a good look for the military.

Disgusting that the US government is denying hormones to her and needs to be sued.

Even more disgusting that I am a taxpayer so they're doing it with my money.

I'm beginning to dislike this president more and more every day, which is sad because I voted for him twice.

Well I suppose it's natural to blame the person at the top, though I suspect that it's likely that he knew nothing about it.

Personally I find it disgusting that someone who revealed the crimes of a government and it's military was imprisoned in the first place. How are we to hold our officials to account when revealing their crimes is itself a crime?

Human nature. There are people in the government who are evil and those who are not. Since they've done a good enough job brainwashing the citizens, nothing will be done to the corrupt government that stands over us. By our rights as given to us by the constitution we can and should remove every last one of them including our horribly corrupt President. Everyone says he doesn't know about these things unless he reads social media or the news which is complete horse doodoo. He's the President. If he can pinpoint the location of the hundreds of thousands of ISIS that are running rampant in the middle east, then he would know about this crime of not giving someone the medical treatment they deserve as a human being. I didn't vote for him either time and served with him in office and got screwed by him since.

Gee whiz Suzi:

Name any other President that has fought for our rights.

That's right there are none.

Also a lot of people have been helped by him for his Obamacare, which allows people to keep health care(also get healthcare) for preexisting conditions.

All Chelsea has done was tell the crimes that our government did.
She should also receive medical care as well.

This is like denying insulin to diabetic prisoners.

You have extremely unrealistic expectations of what the president should be responsible for.

I apologize that my expectations are not realistic enough for you.

And, yes he's TALKED ABOUT our rights. Now is a time he could fight for them. With a phone call from him or one of his aides, he could get this trans woman the treatment she needs and keep the government out of a costly court fight at the same time.

You're content to defend him as he stands back and let this expensive court fight ensue?

Well, I'm not.

Do I expect that man I voted for twice to put his muscle where his mouth is? You bet I do.

Unrealistic, maybe.

But maybe if we had higher expectations for the leadership, our leaders would would do a better job.

All blame goes to the highest chain of command which is the President of the U.S. You think he does not keep up with this story himself? It is not blame, it is just who the chain of command rest's with.  :)

There are probably like 40 levels of the chain of command between an E-1 and her medical care and the Commander in Chief.  It is completely unreasonable to expect one person to fix things occurring that far below him.  Given all that he is responsible for, the idea of him getting involved in one person's health care treatment is pretty ridiculous.

Yes, I agree.

But the idea of the president, the boss, the man who hires and fires, setting a tone where people below him have enough respect that they make sure everything happens the way it's supposed to so they stay on his good side and further his vision of effective government.

That's not ridiculous.

That's leadership.
