Title: waiting time for porterbrook.
Post by: Zoe Louise Taylor on August 13, 2014, 01:05:04 PM
Heya

has anyone here been reffered or seen at the porterbrook clinic in sheffield?
I was just wondering how long I can expect to wait for my first appointment after being reffered by my gp?

I phoned them the other day, and was told it would be about 1 year! I dont mind waiting, but just wanted to know how long other people were on the waiting list for?

Thanks
zoe

I had my first appointment in December! :) Was really good!!!
Was on the waiting list for about 10 months in the end, i was expecting to be waiting about a year, so was good to be seen abit sooner!!! :)

Ten months? It's terrible how trans people have to wait so long for such essential services. I'm glad you got to see them though.

Thats a bit better than a year but the quicker the better. I hope it went well for you nervous about the first appointment myself but by the looks of it got some time before that happens.

hi
how do they stand as far as the 18 week rule. as i understand it they have 18 weeks from referral to seeing you for a first appointment otherwise you are entitled to alternative treatment including private. this is on the nhs web site. they are obviously way outside their requirements,i just wonder if anyone has asked for alternative treatment. i too have just been referred to porterbrook and im still waiting for a letter from them.

I also read the same thing on the nhs website regarding 18 weeks but as far as I know and what people say there waiting list is up to 12 months and dont know about alternative treatment.
