Title: A question about grafts
Post by: Ayden on August 14, 2014, 04:25:03 AM
I was just curious to hear from the guys who had free nipple grafts. When did your stitches come out of the nipples? Did they do it naturally? I've accidentally nudged two when showering and they came out. No pain or bleeding, but I'm cautious. I still have another week of bandaging and xeroform, so I'm not sure if that's too soon.

My surgeon took mine out at 2 weeks.  I found a couple of more that she missed about a week or two later and just pulled them out myself.

Garramone's come out naturally.  You are not supposed to pull them, you are supposed to just clip them as they come to the surface.

See, that's it. The ones around my areola were never imbedded to begin with, they were just around my nipple and at the surface. I haven't touched them either as I'm worried about damaging the skin. I just let soap and water run over my chest and very carefully pat dry.

Mine (Dr G) just absorbed. Don't recall any stitching at all coming out of the nipples. I did see the stitching initially though. But if you should see a stitch you can very carefully clip the end off.

I saw stitches on the big incision but never on the nipple area.

if they're dissolvable they'll start falling out fairly quickly. The piece of stitch in the skin dissolves and the knot falls away. Mine started falling out as soon as I got my drains out and started showering one week post op.

I think that's what I have. I just have the stitch knot on top and around the areola.

I haven't had any of the sutures or anything in the incisions come up. I haven't even had any of the white blisters along the incision thank goodness. Seeing things poke out of my skin weirds me out. Expect piercings. Go figure.
