Title: Question about voice?
Post by: Auroramarianna on August 14, 2014, 07:33:10 AM
Hi girls :)

I'm trying to get my voice down a little. My voice is about 300hz-310hz, which is almost child range. I think I kinda strain my voice, because everytime I talk I feel my voice box moving up a bit, like 1cm or so. I just wanted to ask, what do you think would be my natural voice if I didn't strain it or moved my box up? Because I don't want to be deluded to think I have a natural female voice if I don't Maybe my voice would be around 200hz, but I have no idea? I mean, like if I have this voice I obviously don't have a deep man's voice, but I question to what degree it'd be female. What do you think? Could this be the reason why I think I make weird sounds when I laugh thinking it could be male sounding when it is just lower in pitch and more natural? Anyone here who understands how this works??

Thanks girls

Hello  ;D Well, this has really helped me.

There are different ways people use that work for them, and yes a very common tutorial I see out there is bringing your voice from your male pitch up into falsetto and coming down to where it feels comfortable. That didn't quite work for me. I did notice talking in the female voice to have more authenticity when bringing the voice up to your head as opposed to the voice being down in the chest, where the male voice typically comes from. I kinda see where you're coming from on the 300hz voice. You wind up overcompensating trying to sound as high pitch as possible, yet it winds up sounding unnatural. I used to do this years ago trying to attain a female voice, before I came out to myself. I enjoyed Nicki's tutorial, though. Give it a watch and let me know whatcha think. *hugs*

Aw, lol, thank you!

But actually, it's not completely unnatural. I have always had a high voice. I probably compensate yeah, but I don't know if I could ever sound male because I never did. To talk I do keep my larynx in a higher position, and I've done this for a long time (i was not even aware of) and it's not my falsetto range actually. I can go higher when I talk or sing, however, it is a bit strained sometimes. So I just wonder what my voice would sound like if my larynx was completely relaxed.

That's wonderful that you've always a higher pitch voice. Kinda puts you at an advantage. Personally, I think the concept of bringing the voice from down in your chest up into your head goes hand in hand with relaxing the larynx. Or at least I feel more relaxed anyway, and able to lessen the strain on my voice. It's still a work in progress for me and patience is key, but it's certainly helped me a lot already. Try feeling on the area in the middle of your collarbone under your neck when you're talking and see if you can feel your voice heavily down there.
