Title: rules/requirements for alabama?
Post by: awilliams1701 on August 28, 2014, 12:11:06 PM
Does anyone know what the rules and requirements are for HRT Alabama? I've been in therapy for about 3 months. I've heard some places require 6 months therapy others require a year of RLE. I've had 3 months of therapy and about of month of almost full time and will be fully full time starting Sept 2nd.

Those rules are rarely a state by state issue but a clinic by clinic or therapist issue. Most follow the SOC or close to it. Insurance companies can have their own limitations also.

You could bring it up to your therapist in your next session. They should know. Then make sure to tell me, since I'm in Alabama, too.

Most therapist will go by the SOC as said.

They are guidelines and each therapist will do what they feel comfortable with.

Some may require more or less depending on what your diagnosis is and where it falls in the spectrum of GD.

Thing is each has there own criteria so from therapist to therapist it will be different.

Then like said if the insurance company is involved they will also have there own wants.

Hoops. Get used to them.

I won't be seeing her until October 3. I'm hoping I can get this straightened out by then. I would love to start this year, but at 3 months its hard to say if that is going to happen. My therapist was originally opposed to me starting right away, but she thinks I'm ready. I'm actually glad she made me wait. There has been a lot I've gotten in order since then.

There is no order to prepare for the effects that hormones can have on the mind.

You will need your therapist for a long time.

If your therapist thinks you are ready, just ask for a letter to give to an endo. There shouldn't be any issue.

I know that. What I'm saying is the process of coming out was a little stressful even though it turned out well for the most part. The worst has been 2 of my 3 sisters having a really hard time about it. Telling me that only Allen and not Ashley will be welcome. etc.. I'm glad that the worst impact of that has passed and I won't be getting that at the same time the hormones start. I wouldn't call it resolved, but I think its going to be a lot more manageable than if I had waited until after starting.

As far as I know there are not specific state laws regarding your HRT unless you are on state insurance. I know that if you are born there and need to change a birth certificate, they will note it as amended and will list your old details.

If you run into trouble, you may be able to lean on the vague human rights protections that exist around a lot of things due to the history of race problems.

I'm from Ohio actually. I've heard they do not change birth certificates for any reason. I'm not sure how that will work, but I'm not even on HRT yet so I'm not even concerned about that at this stage.
