I'm 21 years old, and I noticed there are a lot of older members here... And I was just wondering, since being androgynous or transgendered or being any kind of person that challenges gender roles in today's society is so controversial... And you hear so many stories about transgendered people or even feminine gay people get criticized or bullied or beat up or whatever to this day...
How was the criticism and the hate back then? It must have been ten times more severe then it is today. How did you deal with the hate at an even more conservative and restrictive time in the world?
Just wondering. I always think of like feminine gay people or transgendered people from an older era and I just wonder how on earth did they deal with the hate they must have got when even today, it's still so vicious?

There is one famous transgender person who my parents and friends made me think was satan herself, that if I went near her I'd spontaneously combust.
In school I was beaten up and called a f*g repeatedly. Teachers did little to stop them other than mild corporal punishment.
