Title: LGBT youth group. Help pls
Post by: DelKay on September 23, 2014, 10:06:59 PM
On Thursdays there's colours youth group at 6:30 to 8:00. I was just wondering if anyone had any good excuses I could use to get out of the house till then. It's at a youth centre which does health related appointments. I'm getting my own doctor there on Friday and I have test results for a TB test I need to grab at 4:45.
For some back ground, my parents would flip sh!t if they knew that I was sneaking off to go there on Thursdays but I heard that there are other people questioning their genders (should I say sex?) like me too and it would just be fantastic to visit maybe even once a month.
There are volunteer opportunities there too which could be useful but I just don't know. I was thinking of telling my mom that I was just going to go shopping and grab supper after my appointment so I might be able to get away with it this time. But idk how I can go back without raising suspicion. Especially since we usually have dinner at around that time and it sounds a bit sketchy that I'd go out at those hours. :( the timing is just super weird. Advice?

Going to do something with friends? When I was in high school, I used to hang with friends at a diner for a good 3-4 hours at a time.

Maybe say you are spending time with a friend?  Or try to come up with some other theme for a youth group that you could say you are going to.

BTW, questioning gender is the right way to say it as opposed to sex.

Best of luck, and if you don't find a way to make it work, there are online resources (though I know they're not the same).  I volunteer at a college LGBT center, if you can't find a way to get involved with your local group, PM me and I'll try my best to share whatever other resources I know of.

im actually home schooled and have been for the past 5 years since I moved here so I haven't made any new friends that I know well enough to have dinner with.
Found out my test was moved to 1:00 so now I'm kinda stuck. Idk if I could just disappear for 8 hours. :/

It's not really resources I'm looking for. I just want to be with people who are in the same place as I am or close to it.
I'm thinking of just telling my parents that there's volunteering there on Thursday evenings.

I assumed my parents would react badly, but was mistaken.  Maybe you could bring a parent with you, maybe not.  But if you do decide you are transgender, then you are going to have to tell your parents eventually.
Either way, If you explained to one or both of them that you want to join a youth group to make friends and socialize with people your own age, it would be reasonable.  You don't have to tell them about the meetings or what it's specifically for until you're ready to do so.  I'm worried that trying to hide it will draw suspicion before you're ready to be forthcoming with them.

I told my mom I went to volunteer but I think she searched the site up online and made the connections with the time. She asked me what I did, what kind of people were there and why I chose Thursday. *sigh* I doesn't weeks trying to make sure this wouldn't happen. :(
