I hate sports... but I had to watch this game. The Giants are "our" team in this household. No, hubby is away working for the week and I watched it anywya. This is history! This is really much more important than all the other crap we had to deal with today. This was FUN!
I jumped for joy. I cried. I laughed. I loved it.
Yay Barry!

I cried too. I am not a big sports fan either but moments like this transcend sports. There is an aesthetic quality about baseball that is unlike anything else, a kind of visual poetry, the majestic flight of that baseball, the crowd rising as one as contact was made, cheering, then cheering again when the ball landed, then, for me, seeing and hearing the fireworks outside my window, it was quite a moment.

Melissa,
I don't mean to rain on your parade but, speaking as one San Franciscan to another...
XO,
Gina M.
You are raining on your own parade, not mine.

Can't rain on my parade either. It's fun. I won't argue the steroid thing. He hasn't tested positive for it and I don't know the all the facts. Apparently the legal people don't either. I really don't care about baseball ;) I do know however that Babe Ruth was a real lush when it came to booze. Yes, I consider that a drug just as nasty as steroids or any other. Babe was still a great ball player...... and so is Barry.
So.. we'll just enjoy seeing a long standing record broken... for the entertainment value.

Yes the Bambino was a lush and that took away from his performance in later years unlike HGH which seems to slow the aging process and steroids to bulk the muscles.
Of course here in Atlanta, we still consider The Hammer as the "natural" home run king. Henry Aaron is a class act and always has been. Barry Bonds is, at best, a jerk and always has been. Let's face it, if Barry Bonds had not taken HGH and sterioids, his performance would have fallen off over the years as others have instead of getting better. And if Barry didn't do any of those nasty things as is claimed by so many people (who apparently also believe in the Easter Bunny) why is his personal trainer still in jail on contempt charges for refusing to testify. If he didn't give Bonds any of those performance enhancers, why not just say no in court and be done with it (unless no would be perjury).
Talk about how great he is, talk about his drug aided endurance, talk about anything you want. Barry Bonds (and other drug users) are the worst thing to happen to baseball since the 1919 Black Sox. When 5'7" Punch and Judy hitters start blasting 420' home runs, something is wrong and it ain't with the ball or the bat!

Bonds admitted to taking steroids. Saying he hasn't tested positive is like saying someone can't be convicted of murder unless they're caught with a smoking gun in their hands standing over the body. Yes, I'm aware that a lot of MLB players are on drugs (and let's not even get started about the NFL. At least track and cycling make an effort to catch guys and stop drug use.)
But I was happy when I heard he hit 756. I was happy because that means the circus around this ridiculous chase is over. And I'll still say Hank Aaron is the home run king. But mostly I just won't care about professional baseball, as I haven't cared for a while.
Barry Bonds should be in the Hall of Fame -- right behind Pete Rose, waiting to buy a ticket.

I think Barry Bonds is the greatest thing to EVER happen to baseball. Drugs in one form or another has Always beeen apart of baseball. All the greatest players have always used drugs.

And that makes it right? Gee maybe we should just give the guys a pass when they rob and shoot someone to get the money for their next fix of coke/crack/meth or whatever. After all, the rest of the druggies are robbing and shooting people to get their next fix so by your Barry Bonds/MLB standard, that makes it ok. Illegal drug use is illegal drug us and it doesn't matter if it's Barry Bonds or unemployed Joe Blow. It's still WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! But since we're talking the Bay area, let's go ask Lyle Alzado or John Matuzak of the Raiders. Oh wait, Alzado died at age 43 of brain cancer induced by steroids and the Tooz died at age 39 of lifestyle choices including use of anabolic steroids.
Enhancement drugs have no place in baseball or any other sport because from professional sports, it leaks down to college which leaks down to high school which links down to middle school and the nest thing you know, 8 year old kids are juicing!
