Title: Need a little fashion advice for my trip out on the town tomorrow

So, I want to wear my skirt out to town, problem is, I only have a black one (No pattern) and a red one with what looks similar to a floral pattern. The red one is of course red but it also has black around the red floral patterns. Now why is this a problem? Because, my top choice is very limited. I have no red shirts to wear, I do have a single black shirt which I could wear with the black skirt but, I'd rather wear a new piece of clothing I bought which is a light gray and white stripped shirt with a design on it. (The design is also white, no colors/words) but again, I only have those two skirts to wear. I don't know practically anything about fashion sense despite loving clothes and such, so, does the light gray/white stripped with a white pattern on it shirt go well with either the black skirt (No pattern) or the red skirt that looks like floral patterns and has black around those patterns?
If it doesn't, what CAN I do?

I think you could do the grey and white with the red floral skirt. But if you feel like it's too bold or clashes (it might not look like what I'm envisioning) then you can wear just about anything with a black skirt.
I'd go for the red skirt if the shirt is a lighter shade of grey, but if it's darker I'm not sure.

Try and find some accessories to bring the colors together.
Like the gray/white shirt would look great with either skirt, espesh with a gray belt, or a scarf that matches the skirt will bring it together too.
Shoes and ear rings/jewelry also will add a finishing touch if they have some color of the skirt in them.
I'm sure you'll look fab whatever you wear.!

Only 6 hours till my day out on the town commences.
Also, I can't match anything with the shirt/skirt. I don't have but 1 pair of shoes, no ear rings/accessories and so on. So it comes down to the shirt/skirts I mentioned.
If anyone else can give their advice I'd sure appreciate it. Last thing I want is people staring at me because I wore something that clashes with another.

Long story short hun, going purely by the colour schemes you've described, then the answers to the various combinations would be as follows:
Plain black skirt and plain (I assume?) black top: This would likely work because there's low contrast between the two colours. This would also be kinda boring and obvious though, so if you're trying to be striking then this would dampen your impact.
Plain black skirt and grey with white stripes top: This would likely not work because it would be too contrasty between the white and the black. I'm assuming either a mid or light grey though. If it's a very dark grey then it could be made to work if you have some complimentary accessories to balance it.
Patterned red skirt and grey with white stripes top: Again, this is a very contrasty setup that likely wouldn't work. You'd have 4 different colours (red, black, white and grey) that are quite strong and would be competing with each other for attention. Depending on the amount of each, this is probably the worst colour combination (grey and red in particular tend to always have a lot of issues with each other in my experience)
Patterned red skirt and plain (I assume?) black top: This is probably your best combination. The black in the skirt would reflect the black of the top, tying the two parts together. The red adds a strong accent, and even though there may be a lot of it, the black will take a back seat to it because of how black works with strong colours (this is why black and red are often a really good combination).
I was going to try and show the colour schemes but can't find a good way to represent it lol. In any case, I hope that helps hun :)

Yea, didn't think they'd work, thanks, however, I forgot all about my 3rd skirt.
Will a white floral like pattern surrounded by black skirt (same design as the red skirt basically only white instead of red) go well with the light gray and white stripped shirt with a print on it that's also white? The white and black are about even throughout the skirt though it looks like there's more black than white but it's about even.
Only 4 & a half hours left so I'm trying to see what can be done if that doesn't work..

Hmm, again it really depends what kind of "grey" we are talking about in the top tbh hun. If it's a mid-grey then it's going to get weird, but if it's either a very light grey (as in - nearly white) or a very dark grey (as in - nearly black), then it should work (it'll compliment the black or the white respectively).
I don't suppose you can post pics at all can ya hun? I'm kinda making a lot of assumptions here lol :P

Quote from: KiraD on October 02, 2014, 04:52:56 PMFor the gray part of the shirt, it looks like the pixelated snow effect on a TV. (Yes it has the whitish & blackish dots) for the white part of the stripes which are less thick than the gray ones, it's so light that it looks like it might be pink but it's white and then u have a solid white print design of something nature wise (As in, animal, plant or something from outside) on it. As for the skirt, the white & black one looks more like roses, branches and leaves. Not sure if that's what the creator had in mind but that's what I see anyway.

And sorry, not able to post pictures but, does the above help give you a better visualization to be able to say if it'll work?

Thanks everyone for all the help and advice. I went with the white/black floral like pattern skirt with the white/gray shirt with the print. No one looked at me weirdly so guess it matched enough. That said, my night out on the town didn't go as I'd planned and I didn't have much time to enjoy the trip. Even so, could have been worse and I had some fun, plus, got some red shirts finally that if they fit, can now go wit the red skirt I have, :)

Sorry I didn't get back to you in time hun (it was late here and I fell asleep lol :P ). I'm really glad to hear that you had a great time, even if it was only breif! :D And yeh I would have said the black and white skirt would work with the grey and white top (again going purely by the colour scheme, that sounds like it'd balance nicely). Also glad to hear that you've got some red tops to go with your skirt :) <3
