Title: What adhesive would you recommend?
Post by: Ethedon on October 06, 2014, 02:03:26 PM
I've been using the hollister spray for my prosthetic and its held it for the most part but now Im looking for something stronger. Can anybody who's used Hollister and other adhesives recommend something stronger? My prosthetic is on the heavy side :/. But I can only use silicone adhesives. Apparently it'll damage the tab if I dont.

Ethedon,
It depends on which prosthetic you have. I find that silicone adhesives work different on different silicone prosthetics. I use different brands.
Also the hold is based on what skintype you have, if you sweat a lot, the acid level of your skin, if you move around a lot..

Like Aleon said.. the RM adhesive is great and expensive. Besides that 1/2oz will only last me six appliances. I only like the RM extra strength on a RM prosthetic because the standard adhesive of them is too runny (waterlike consistency). It causes to slip during sports. It still may work for you though. You have to try several out to find which one is best for you.

Ok thanks for the advice guys. And yes RM Adhesive is expensive but I guess I can give it a try. I am still trying to figure out how to clean the adhesive off the tab without damaging it.

Re: Ethedon cleaning tab.

I use lighter fluid, but only when I have glue build up on the back. I then rinse it off with water and anti-bacterial handsoap.

I know RM has a cleaner that comes with it, but that is for around the prosthetic (not the back because It won't work). And their oily like remover is not for use on the back of the tab (it will ruin it).

In my experience you CAN'T.

I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about my Reelmagik except for the build up of glue that has accumulated over the years I've had it.  I posted a thread here as open letter to RM to offer some kind of tape kit like LJ does so that problem can be solved.

I would HIGHLY reccomend you get the tape kit from LJ and use that before it's too late.  When I had a LJ I would get a build up of glue on it BUT because the tape kit is smooth I could easily peel off all the glue build up with just a little adhesive remover and something to get under the glue and lift it up.  That slick/smoothness makes for a super easy removal.

If you get the tape kit, I'd also recommend you contact RM and ask them if the glue tube that LJ sent you can be used on the back of the prosthetic and not damage it.  RM might have a better alternative to use as the binding agent from tab to tape kit.

Someone mentioned using Goo Gone for adhesive. I would test it on a small piece of the tab to see if it is safe. But it is definitely cheaper. They have adhesive remover. It's quite pricey, so I think that's worth a try.

I hope that can help me!  I've spent SO much time trying to get the build up off with just the adhesive remover and I can never get the last like 20% off.  It's like it might have permenantly fused to the tab.
:(. Tbh I want the new 6" advanced model for the 3D scrotum and human hair option but I'm not the biggest fan of the circumsciom scar on the new model.  Don't get me wrong it looks AMAZING just different then mine and not the most appealing to me.

So hopefully I could use goo gone on my old prosthetic and maybe wait a little on getting the new model and then just get the STP with a LJ tape kit

Thank you for the info!

Be careful with the stuff, try on a small piece and so on. I don't know if petroleum distillates and silicone are okay for each other.

Thanks!  Yeah I defiantly am!  I was gonna email Reelmagik with a list of the ingredients before I even buy it and ask them if it's ok or if they have any suggestions for a different product.  And even if they say it's ok I'm still gonna only use a tiny bit to test it just to be extra safe.

I'm curious about your process of using lighter fluid.

How much of a glue build up do you have before using it?

How do you use it?  Pour it on the glue and let it rest?  Try to get it under the glue?

How long have you been using it?  Any problems at all with your method?

I'm just trying to get as many options as I can for removing the build up.

Hi Tyler
I'm going to answer you questions one by one;

1. I have had the glue build up on the back on the tab. It was on the place left and right from the "hole" they made for post-op ftms. And it also hit the area just above it. The glue build up was about 3mm thick and the spot was 2 by 3 cm on the left side. It was 1 by 2 at the right side.

2. I pour the lighterfluid on a make up sponge and wipe the areas off. I repeat this till most of the area will become matt (as you watch it). I throw the make up sponge away after each use. The reason I use the make up sponge is because it won't fall apart like paper.
If you still have glue build up left, I use a toothpick to go under the area. After this grab a cotton swab and dip it in lighter fluid again. Put it under the glue, try slighting moving it till the glue comes off.
After this, I wash the prosthetic with water and anti-bacterial soap so that the lighter fluid won't come in touch with your skin (just in case if there is residue from the lighter fluid).
Then leave it air dry and you are good to go.

3. I used it for a year now. I got the prosthetic in 2011, and got glue issues in 2012. I don't have problems so far after using this method. Keep in mind that I don't wear it everyday now, since I have skin problems (not from the method, I've been born with atopic excema).

1) How many times do you use it prior to removing it?
2) How long does it take to complete the above process?
3) Are you referring to the flaccid or erect model?

Thanks.

Sorry my english isn't very good, and I will forget things to mention.
1. I try to clean it completely with my method after three days. Between these days I just use water and anti-bacterial soap to wipe the most of it off.
2. It depends on how much glue you have on the back. I mostly do the whole process between 5 and 10 minutes
3. The 4.5 model with flexrod

Your English is just fine.  I didn't even notice it wasn't your first language!

So, you are saying:
1) You remove your product daily.
2) It is usually day three that you do the method.  The other two days you use soap and water.

Very helpful.  Thanks!

Tyler, what has RM suggested when you have talked to them about this continued problem?

Also, just to clarify while you are here (off topic), you use the 6 inch erect for penetrative sex, right?  Do you use a harness or will it stay attached without it?  Thanks.

Teacherology,
I tested the lighter fluid on a small part of my prosthetic and it works. It came off easily. And it seems to still have the same hold as before. Thanks for the tip. It's funny because I purchased the Hollister from Amazon and it came with a 12oz bottle of remover which is from Janet's closet. It's basically lighter fluid. At the time I was afraid of using it on the tab because I wasn't sure if it'd damage it. Gonna try the xtra strength from RM. Thanks again.

Good to hear that it works for you too Ethedon. You're welcome.
I like science and stuff, which I why I try really weird things. In this case it works  ;).

By the way I do have the Hollister and the Hollister remover as well (number 7730 and 7731). I could not get the Hollister off with its own brand remover. I think that is strange... With off, I mean off my body. I had to scrub really hard and that made my atopic excema gone worse.  I stopped using it because of that.
They also changed the name Hollister to Adapt here in Europe.

Thanks!  Yeah it seems like you don't have as much of a problem as I do.  My whole tab is covered in build up.

The toothpick thing is basically what I try to do with just remover and it doesn't work.  But it did work with my LJ and the tape kit.

Well tbh I haven't contacted them about this problem yet for a couple of reasons...

1) It's kind of embarrassing to me.  I know it shouldn't be; but if you just saw the back of it you'd think I never cleaned it...like ever and I'm VERY hygienic IRL.

2) Up until now it hasn't been exactly a problem.  What I mean by that is until now my RM has been the only RM that I use and I use it often. Packing hard and "soft", in locker rooms, sexually, with a STP (Go-guy underneath it).  I never had to take it off and risk anyone seeing it.  Now with the STP coming out I'd like to use the STP to pee obviously lol and also as my day to day packer and in locker rooms.  Then switch to either this 6" or the new model with 3D scrotum when I get it.

I'm afraid of a potential sex partner somehow seeing the back of a prosthetic with glue build up and being grossed out.  I defiantly don't want the STP to get this issue or any new prosthetic either.

But I will be contacting them at some point especially if I choose to wait on the new 6".

And as for sex yes I use it without a harness.  It holds well.  Not perfectly.  Sometimes it feels like it's slipping but it's really not.  If I were to wear it for a day and then sleep in and then have sex in the morning it might slip off then.  But I'm sure if I used the tape kit that wouldn't be a problem.  I remember my LJ had a hold like cement.  It was crazy.  I felt like I could have worn that for days with showering and sex and everything.  FYI though my body tends to hold glue VERY well.  Like my skin makeup makes a tighter seal then the average person's.  Hope I helped!

PS I'll just reiterate one more time for you and anyone else reading this.  I would never use a Reelmagik with out some kind of tape kit on it first.  Whether that be a LJ or if RM comes out with their own.

But other then that I absolutely LOVE my RM.

Ok, so to my knowledge, you are the first person on this website who has said that they have an erect RM model that remains adhered during penetrative sex (no harness).  That is pretty huge.  What adhesive do you use?

Really I'm the first? Lol I feel special now lol.  No but seriously I use Factor II BT-460.  It holds a lot better then the Hollister adhesive from what I've heard.  And it also seems to adhere better then the RM one too.

But the hold isn't perfect.  Like I said it sometimes feels like it's slipping and maybe it does a bit but it doesn't come off.  I also enjoy my partners riding me and that might help it stay on idk.  I think some of it has to do with the fact that glue always really sticks to me.  Even band aids seem too hold tighter then for the average person.

You have the option of buying a stand alone tape kit.  It's $75 which IMO is way over priced.  I bought it once as an extra for my LJ before I got the RM and I've since lost it.  :eusa_wall:  :icon_anger: :icon_anger: :icon_cry2:

It came with a few pieces of tape which if I remember correctly is a thin piece of plastic that is similar to that plastic packaging that you need to cut to open.  That's the best way I can explain it.  The pieces of tape are much larger than the tab and you would need to cut it yourself to fit the tab.

They also give you some glue to attach it to the tab.  That glue is permanent and not meat to go on your skin at all.  I don't remember what's in the glue or even if they listed it on the tube.

Personally I feel the price is riduclous.  But it's worth it for what you get. That's one reason why I hope RM comes out with their own.  Hopefully it'll be cheaper and more fairly priced.  Also if it came from them you'd know it work perfectly with their prosthetic.

That is a pity that you have lost it. They are priced on the high side for the 8 pieces of tape kit you get for 75usdollars(but it does work (I recieved mine yesterday, I ordered on 25 september 2014). I was hoping it would be a high end double sided tape kit so that I did not have to put extra glue on it (For the days I don't want to spend time on glueing or can't because of skin problems). But it wasn't..
It is plastic so you have to put medical adhesive on it.

It also is not blue colored like their videos on the tube. I was a bit worried when I watched those vids. Mine is translucent, one tape is 10 cm by 4 cm. You can cut it to size with scissors. From one tape you can cut roughly 4 pieces (Lolajake sized packers) or 1 RM.  I agree with Tyler that it looks like the plastic packaging you have to cut , but thinner.
The glue that you attach the tape liner with is a quick drying silicone glue, that evaporates and then become harder in texture. The glue is not removeable, it becomes part of your prosthetic.

I also heard good things about the BT-460 adhesive from Factor II. Only the price is setting me off. The adhesive is not that expensive but they only ship with UPS and FEDEX. It will costs me 86usd shipping(UPS or 131usd FEDEX) only to Europe (and then I still have to add the price of the adhesive). And that was the cheapest shipping option they offered...
It may be a lot less expensive for the US guys though  :)

The factor II by itself on your prosthetic or do you mean using the Factor II with the tape kit as the glue that attaches the tape to the prosthetic and also the prosthetic to you?  Because the Factor II might work as the adhesive for tape kit.  I'd imagine that the hold of the tape to the prosthetic wouldn't last as long though.

Thanks! The only thing is that they never replied on my two emails last year (intending to buy BT460). The online webstore requires an email enquiry sent before they ship overseas. I just send them an email again. I also contacted a german site called Cosmesil that sells them and also never got a respond.
