Does anyone have any links to information on what the dangers of binding are from reliable sources, i.e. not blogs, and preferably from medical professionals?

Also, any links of the same type regarding the need to bind for a trans person's mental health.

I know the dangers and requirement myself but I'm looking for reliable sources of information to pass onto an employer.

You have to watch for signs of pleurisy (I think that's what it's called. Basically swelling of the diaphram and erased use of lungs resulting in fluid build up in the chest cavity), but that is much much reduced if binding correctly (I.e. not with an ace bandage). Responsible binding, with a top made for it, carries low risk from all my research. I don't have any links for you since my computer died, but I just did a Google search and weeded through the blogs and opinions to fund hard research.

I've managed to compile a few links I found via google scholar, but most of it requires reading in between the lines, as like one link pointed out, there is a severe lack of journalism on this topic.

The short story is (as it isn't mine to tell), an employer has put a stealth trans guy in a position where he would be required to bind almost 24/7 for the next eight months in order to remain stealth.  I'm looking for information to pass onto the person who has made this decision, and blogs/tumblrs probably won't have much sway.

I really hope this guy can find a better job... that situation doesn't sound particularly safe.

We're thinking it's more a case of them not understanding what they're asking him to do. I was in the same place with the job last year and they were amazing, it's just a new manager and lack of knowledge around the risks.
