Hello to all!
I am a 22 year old pre-transition MtF raised and currently living in New York City. I shall go by TheLittleMermaid here as it was my favorite movie growing up (for a variety of reasons) and I still have several candidates for my name once I live full-time as female.
To make a long story short: I have felt female for as long as I can remember. After going through a lot of darkness and tragedy in childhood/adolescence, I am now at a place in life where I can be proud of myself. I have also lost over 130 lbs in the last year+ due to weight loss surgery and I hope to start hormones once I reach my goal weight.
I hope to make new connections and learn as much information as I can from you all! I have been a lurker for a good while and it's been a privilege absorbing the knowledge here.
Thanks :)

Welcome!
Congrats on the weight loss.
I'm just across the water from you in NJ. I'm in Manhattan all the time for HRT (Callen-Lorde), electrolysis etc. I lost 100 lbs prior to transitioning so some similarities. I'm 6'7", so 100 lbs isn't as big of an impact as your 130. NYC is probably one of the best places to transition in. I've had a very smooth transition and full time since last March 2014. There are a lot of great resources in the area.

Thank you, Sydney! Was it difficult post-weight loss to keep off the weight with HRT?

Welcome. I'm also 22 years old and living NYC except I'm not pre-transition anymore as of yesterday and I'm going the other way. I hope to see you around.

It's a little bit of a challenge. In the beginning of HRT, I dropped about 12 lbs the first 3-4 months. Than I started going back up a little and at 7 months I was 5 lbs less than when I started HRT. Now I'm 3 lbs more than when I started HRT. I just had an HRT appointment this week and my doctor told me not to be too worried about it and all my stats and levels look fantastic. (Blood pressure 110/70, Cholesterol 189, T and E all at female levels etc) She said that with my height being 6'7", 258 is not a bad weight. I wear a women's size 16 (extra long obviously) pants. Personally I feel I need to lose about 25 lbs and I'm taking steps to do that. I do find that it's easier to eat less since starting HRT. My Achilles heal is eating late at night, something I didn't use to do and now I'm undoing that bad habit that my wife got me into. She's undoing it herself so we are working together, but she has more weight to lose.

Thanks Devlyn and Marcellow! Glad to be here.
Thanks for sharing :) I'm 5'8ish and have about 40-50 lbs more to lose which I want to get done by early 2015. It's tricky because I have a lap band (which limits hunger/food intake) and have to find a way for HRT to work around it, plus I have a lot of excess skin which will need to be removed (which I don't know if that should happen pre-HRT or during.)

My mother and one of my sister had the gastric bypass surgery and lost 150 lbs each (my mother is 5'11 and my sister 5'10", btw my sisters are not biologically related to me.) Anyway, they both had excess skin removed and it was 15 lbs worth of skin. They both kept it off, but my mother is having issues with not getting enough vitamins and protein due to the gastric bypass.
I have a step brothers that also had the lap band, and he initially lost weight with it, but didn't eat healthy. He and his mother both had it done and when eating out with them, they would order meal, not be able to eat them all, then order dessert and overstuff themselves with that. (I eat dessert once a week if that.) Needless to say, the horrible eating habits caused them to gain most of the weight back.
The lap band helps, but one still needs to make a conscious effort to eat healthy.

Oh definitely. I do follow my doctor's rules for my lap band, but I'm nervous that HRT will do crazy damage to my weight goal that I've been working so hard for.

welcome aboard littlemermaid
I am also a nyc-ite from queens and also in that group of "GOTTA LOSE" - I started working on the weight last November just before starting hrt in January - so far I am down 46 lbs and hoping for another 40-45 just by eating more sensibly
be well
