Title: Hair
Post by: Erica_Dean on October 19, 2014, 10:12:39 PM
Hello,
Very first post. Just joined, but I have a question about HRT.  I'm 41 and I'm more or less bald on top. YAY FOR TESTOSTERONE AND DHT! (insert sarcasm here).

I know that HRT will most likely stop the hair loss, but how much regrowth can I expect over time. Am I doomed to wear a wig for the rest of my days?

Hi Erica,

Welcome to Susans! Well from what I understand HRT alone will not regrow hair. See the problem is the follicle is no longer producing hair. The are medications available to assist with re growing hair however best to speak with your doctor.

Hugs,
Bree

This like everything with HRT varies considerably from person to person

I was told not to expect any regrowth, but I am getting some. I am 45 and been on HRT for 8 months. I am starting to have some regrowth about an inch forward of my hair line. It happened so gradually that I had not realized that my hairline had receded that far.

I am on a transitioning dose of E and Spiro. I also take finasteride, the higher dose and progesterone. I use minoxidil twice a day and use a micro needle roller 2mm 3 times a week. I have seen significant regrowth. I am hopeful that my hair will progress with more regrowth even still.

Micro needeling makes the effect of topical minoxidil much greater.

I eat healthy and exercise. I do not smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs. My unfasting sugar was 89 at my last blood test.  This may sound trivial but I think it matters in hair regrowth as well as general health.

Your hair follicle does not die but it shrinks as the blood flow shrinks from a host of factors including DHT. It takes a lot of time to reestablish the network to support the hair follicle. I have notice hair regrowning in an increasing rate and they tend to grow next to an existing hair. I still have a long way to go but I will not give up.

Regrowth takes a lot of time and effort.  Losing hair took time too.

Good luck and take the above with a grain of salt and YMMV.

Life is hard. Wear a helmet.

I've regrown all the hair that I lost in my hairline with just hrt but I started hrt in my early 20s so idk that probably has something to do with it.
