Great news for Rhode Islanders. I have lived in RI since 1986, but unfortunately I am a transplant from the trans-restrictive state of Ohio where they will not change the gender marker on a birth certificate.

This is the icing on the cake! Basically eliminates and takes care of the one thing RI scared me about, with its old policy of not giving a new birth certificate, and denoted the old sex had been changed. Honestly, this state is amazing to transition in, can't say enough good things, between other people being so open, my insurance (student healthcare) covering SRS, etc.

It takes effect in 18 days, for my fellow RI born folks. Apparently, this was done with the efforts of the ACLU, YPI (Youth Pride Inc.) director, etc. Supposedly years in the making, from a source close to the negotiations on my end.

It's a shame that Ohio is unwilling to get on board.
