Title: Think I'm gonna keep my suffix.
Post by: ErinS on November 05, 2014, 06:46:56 PM
I've got this ever growing desire to keep my generational suffix(I'm a IV) I've always been proud of it and even if my first name is different and I present female I still think I want to rock it. I'm also going to keep my middle name, which is a variant spellings of a male name that also happens to be a Norwegian female name when it's stressed slightly differently. That way I can keep my initials and all my  cool monogrammed stuff. :)

The thing is I'm all but certain I won't try to be stealth, even though there's s 99% chance I could pull it off. As such I won't really have to worry all that much about plausible but untrue explanations.

Anyone else ever considered such?

Originally I was going to be Stephanie Grace, but I ended up liking the middle name so much I switched it to Grace Stephanie...good thing I don't have any cool monogrammed stuff!

You've lived with a suffix for quite a while, so you probably know the issues. But since you're changing you're name, just a reminder: The US State department (passports), the US Social Security Administration, and the 50 state departments of motor vehicles have slightly different ideas about what a name is; some of them think a suffix is part of a name, some don't (or don't think it is worth keeping track of). If you ever have to have something notarized, some notaries think whatever ID card you present must exactly agree with the document you are signing about what the suffix is (or the absence of a suffix). Some aren't that fussy. I don't know about you, but I really hate last-minute surprises when I'm trying to transact some business. If I were to give a child a name in today's environment, the name would not include a suffix.
