Title: Early transition hair styles
Post by: rachel89 on November 15, 2014, 08:15:55 AM
What are some good hair styles for pre-HRT woman. I want to do something that doesn't look so masculine, but doesn't look like too drastic of a change either. Hair length isn't that big of a concern at the moment because I like to cover my hair with a scarf/tichel when dressed as woman (watch the "wrapunzel" videos on youtube). I am mostly concerned about hair being in places it shouldn't. Also, wigs have very little appeal for me because I cannot/do not want to afford a really good wig and cheap wigs would make me look like a drag queen, which I am not.

If you want something that can go both ways you can either go with a pixie cut or grow it all out.

You can shape your eyebrows so that they work either way and if you can start laser or electrolysis as soon as possible, a guy without a beard is just well shaven but a woman with stubble isn't very attractive IMHO.

Definitely start growing your hair out. Lots of males have hair of all lengths. I've worn long hair most of my adult life, though much of that time I wasn't presenting as necissarily feminine. Once the top is to your chin or so you can get a blunt cut which is very versatile for gender crossing. You can ponytail when looking more masculine and wear it loose and curled when feminine.

Get some hair ornaments like headbands and barrettes. These can be worn on hair of any length and look very feminine. I'm not so big on scarves on the head as they always suggest a cancer patient of someone with hair loss. Scarves look great on the neck, though.

Start wearing earrings if you don't already. Get pierced if you can, but you can find lots of inexpensive clip rings online if you want. It's amazing how feminizing a nice pair of earrings can be. Learn to do makeup well. A simple short hairstyle can look very feminine if the person has good makeup. Don't get the whole works and try to learn it all at once, though. Take one thing at a time like mascara or lipstick+liner and play with it until you've mastered it. Going low key is always best when learning, though.

Lyric that is some good advice. I'm gorwing my hair out now and one thing I've noticed is if you put your hair behind your ears and the back part up you look masculine and by putting it over your ears can greatly feminize your look. Earrings are a nice idea as well as accessories. Definitely shave though, facial hair on a woman indicates a hormone issue and can lessen your passing as female plus there are a lot of clean shaven men so that won't be an issue.
