Title: running on Empty
Post by: stephaniec on November 16, 2014, 02:54:08 PM
I've heard others mention this before, but I've finally felt it full throttle . I had the unfortunate experience of running out of my patches for 4 days and experienced an abrupt down hill spiral in both mental and physical well being.. I returned to my new normal  with  in a day of filling up with E , but the absence of E was quite profound. does everyone else experience such an abrupt noticeable change in well being from lack of E or does it take time to notice.

I suspect it's a placebo thing. I never noticed the kind of things some people claim when they start taking hormones. There are so few studies. Transexual "culture" (if such a thing exists) seems to be populated by myths.

I don't have experience with patches. With pills it seems like 3-4 days later on average being low on E really started to hit me bad. With shots a bit longer on average. Yet, there are times it seems I eat it up and by the time I am do for another shot I am already on that downhill slide.

I would imagine patches have the same sort of effect as a shot. Sure the dose rate is kind of sort of constant for a while. But eventually it starts running low. Your body chemistry will also alter the uptake and transfer/dosage rates. So like with a shot you are running fine untill you run out of gas. Exactly when that really happened??? How or when can you really know except perhaps how fast you feel it, if not already feeling it

I have never ran out of E.

However, shots are fantastic 10 out of 14 days. It gets pretty bad on the 12-14th day. Bad to the point my therapist suggested I talk to my PA about a 12 day cycle.

I haven't run out of E yet, but what I've been reading from other posts. I certainly don't want to let my prescription get to low before getting it refilled. I'm going to definitely keep a watch on this thread to see others input on this. I pray that you get through this with the grace that you've always shown.

Hugs,

Melissa Ann

Well we have to give it up for surgery so it's not uncommon and won't reverse months of HRT. Cis women cycle through estrogen every month and yes it can make them grumpy. I'd suggest the feeling empty is possibly emotional rather than physical but if it persists see a a doctor as something other than hormones might be at the core of it.

It likely just upped your anxiety levels a good bit, not a direct hormone effect, but could be real nonetheless.  I don't get it like that, it actually takes a good while to get to me, at least over a month or so anyway.
