For those who already had hysterectomies, what kind did you have AND are you on T?

I finally had a talk with my doctor but I am still in a position where I can't make a proper decision...  I know I need to have a hysterectomy but I am not sure whether to have a partial one or a full one. Right now, the cysts are on the left side so maybe I was thinking of just removing the left and keep the right one so it produces hormones but then again, how do I know if I won't have cysts on the right one? 

My husband had the laparoscopic type done (total/full)

Yes he was on T for about 9 years and still.

In another week he has his 1st stage phallo.

I had everything removed so I guess that's called a full hysterectomy. I was about 1,5 years on T at that point.

I had a total hysterectomy for cysts and endometriosis.  Both ovaries because they both had endometriosis.  I was on replacement estrogen, progesterone and testosterone all at female levels. I've now dropped the estrogen and progesterone and am only taking the testosterone,  still at a female level.  Knowing this level is not enough for strong bones, I lift weights religiously. For me,  this is a short term solution.  I'll be on full transition level t as soon as I get some personal stuff taken care of

I had a total hysto/oopho. I was about 10 months on T at the time, and still am.

I was apprehensive about the whole procedure in a large part because I didn't want to take medicine every day afterwards.  Surprisingly, taking post-hysterectomy HRT didn't turn out to be that big of a deal.  It became a morning habit like brushing my teeth and putting on deodorant.

Thank you for the answers everyone.  I was also told by my doctor that I don't even need to take too much T if I got the full hysto but I still don't know how my bones can be protected without estrogen?  By the way, is taking hormones (whether T or E)  just the same as the hormone that the body naturally produces meaning are they good enough to be effective?

total lap. hysto, 1 year on T, no disease or anything abnormality, purely for gender reason

Both testosterone and estrogen protect bone density.  Estrogen is better at it than testosterone, but testosterone does a good job of it as well.

I didn't know it was possible to have a "half" hysto and then have bottom surgery like phallo, can someone explain more about it?

I had a full hysterectomy under the delusion that it was a good idea and I would be happy with the choice because I had never wanted to give birth...

Well, after realizing that transition was not right for me I have become aware what a poor idea it was and I'm horrified that a doctor did it to me when I was only 21 years old... not even old enough to rent a car yet but apparently just fine to disable myself in some way.

It sucks because now my body requires some type of hormones to maintain health or else I would quickly suffer many 'old age' diseases such as osteoperosis and muscle deterioration. Our hormones do a lot more than just make us look male or female and produce babies, they're tied in with every function of our body, up to and including digestion and even vision.

Luckily it was at least done laproscopically so I don't have some kind of large scar, but the tiny one that I have is upsetting to me enough even though it's extremely faint and less wide than a finger nail.

I had one done just over six months ago. It was a full hysterectomy with a bilateral saplingo-oopherectomy. So my uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes were all removed. I was on T for about a year and 7 months when I had it done. It was done laproscopically which was great for recovery time. I'm really glad I had it done. I had a lot of dysphoria over those parts and also endometriosis and cysts.

Thank you for the information. So, what is endometriosis actually?  I heard my doctor mention this briefly but my ultrasound didn't mention the word. It had 'cysts' and 'follicle'. What are the symptoms for having endometriosis? Is it only experienced when having a period?

I had a full hysterectomy with ovaries removed done laprascopically just last week. Im 2 months on T. I was debating on taking my ovaries but honestly i would be really pissed if i didnt and developed ovarian cancer down the road. I figured if im not going to use them.. may as well get rid of them. lol

Endometriosis is when cells from the lining of your uterus travel and adhere to other body parts. They react the same as the uterine lining and therefore bleed and such when you have a period. They cause pain also.

I got all the internal baby-making assembly taken out. My procedure was partly robotic through my belly and partly vaginal.

My gyno was concerned about how casual I was going into it, but I don't think she's used to trans people or aware of how touchy this issue can be for some of us. Like I'd rather just go through it like I'm buying groceries or something and deal with my feelings in private. She and also the nurses and one of the other surgeons seemed to want me to be in mourning or having epiphanies or something.

Everything went well and my main problem was that for a few weeks I couldn't eat bread without getting bad gas pains.

Felix, I don't  think many outside of other other ftm's and a few others know how much we want to be rid of our internal parts and what we are willing do to get done.  Most medical people are dealing with women who want to keep those parts all together as long as possible.  I know I get that from a couple of people I know if the subject comes up.  I am glad your result a good for you.

Wkly1269, I am thinking I want my ovaries out too as they can only cause me big problems. I heard again the odd day about a woman who has cancer of the ovaries and it has advance to a very serious situation for her. I thought again I don't want that, just another reason I don't need those internal parts.  I keep seeing why there are so many GYN for the all problem women have with their parts.
