Hello there,
I'm not new to reading these forums, but I am new to posting on them. My name's Sam (thankfully ambiguous), but I prefer to go by SJ. I am FtM, twenty years old and pre-everything. I grew up in a little place called Vermont, raised as a tomboy, and was well loved by my family. When I was ten I learned what 'gay' and 'lesbian' meant and thought I was a lesbian until I discovered what Transgender was when I was fifteen. After a year of researching and talking here, on Susan's chat, I came out to my parents and sister. My sister was accepting, albeit her first words after I told her were, "You want a penis? I just thought you were gay" (I still chuckle at the memory). My father was concerned about my future being hard (finding love and acceptance), but was on-board for learning. My mother, however, told me I was dead. So I went into some therapy and was hoping to get on testosterone ASAP, but that didn't work out (inexperienced therapist, parent-denial, etc.). My parents divorced and I ended up bouncing around homes for a while. I now live in the Adirondacks of New York with my Grandmother (whom thinks I'm gay). She's pretty open to LGBTQA-Z stuff, we've even talked about Trans people and she's understanding. The reason I haven't come out to her yet is because I desire body modifications, which she is highly against (and I mean ANY body mods, like tattoos or earrings. She thinks everyone is beautiful as they are, which is nice, but I still like tattoos and want HRT). So, the reason I decided to stop being just a reader here and start posting is because I'm finally going to move forward in my transition. I've been keeping this to myself for the past five years, but somehow or another my two aunts knew I was trans (trust me, my mother didn't tell them) and they support me fully. They both have told their children and all of them seem to accept and love me (I'm a little bothered they all talk about this without me, but at the same time it's nice to know it was obvious I'm male haha). So, I've decided to do my very best now that I'm an adult with supportive people around me.
I hope that wasn't too long nor too boring. It's nice to meet you all and hopefully have lots of help to give and receive.
I'm glad to be here and be queer,
SJ

Welcome to the forums ~ ;D
My nana is pretty cool about those things too. Sorry to hear about your mom though; it's harsh.
Now you have more than just a couple of family members who support you, but the whole forum family! And I'm sure you'll get all the help you need.
Welcome again!

Hey SJ and welcome to the Queer club :P
I hope everything goes well coming out and that you find/have a stable place to live when you do. It wont take that long to get HRT in NY depending on your area. You can just go the informed consent route too if you want :)
Safe journeys and welcome to the club ;)

Hi SJ, welcome to Susan's Place! I'm near Boston. That little place called Vermont has a littler place called South Alburg, my sister lives there. See you around the site!

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
@ Greenbean
My mom was pretty harsh, but she's getting better. She basically just uses female terms around me more often (like "little girl", "daughter", "princess") and ignores that I'm trans. But we're working on it.
@ Skyler
I hope I also have a stable home (I'm really uncertain of my grandmother's feelings when I begin HRT). I live way upstate and don't exactly have the cash to go the therapist/letter route, so I thought I would go with informed consent, however the nearest clinic appears to be in NYC! I've got a lot more work to do if I'm going to find a safe, affordable way to get HRT.
@ Devlyn
My father lives in Alburgh, so perhaps I will see you around!
@ V M
Thanks for the links! I've read through them, they're very helpful.
