Title: Move to California for SRS
Post by: Amy1988 on November 25, 2014, 11:39:25 AM
So if I move to California would insurance pay for a sex change, hormones and other surgeries related gender identity disorder?

I live in California currently, however my health insurance is through my employer so I have no first hand knowledge. I do know friends who have some coverage through MediCal. I'm not sure the exact coverage and exclusions, but I know HRT and SRS are covered since that's the 2 procedures I need. I actually used this as an argument to get my work to create an inclusive policy. Since I could get on MediCal without my job I threatened to quit since I'd get the coverage I was asking for from the state.

I'm thinking seriously about quitting my job and moving to California.  That's about the only way I'll ever be able to get SRS.

Jobs are hard to find right now. You better think about it a little more. I would suggest putting in resumes, getting hired then moving. :)

I live in CA.  The unemployment rate is understated and a good job is hard to come by unless you are highly qualified.  A lot of people I know are underemployed and were forced to take McJobs with no benefits.

My sister has a PhD in physics and has no job for instance.

My employer has just switched to United Healthcare from BCBS so I don't know what their policy is regarding this kind of thing but probably not open to it.

You should read it or call before you decide to up and move on the off chance you would be employed quickly. You may find yourself homeless and broke if you do not have a plan.
