Does anyone here like read Kafka? I find Metamorphosis to be a very captivating tale.

I've only read Metamorphosis and that was many many years ago. It probably has some interesting parallels to how families treat their trans relatives though.

Many years ago, when I was around 16-17, I read Metamorphosis, The Trial, America, The Castle and his letters to Milena. At the time I found him totally captivating but think I would find him very difficult to stomach now. Way too bleak and no happy endings.
Very powerful writing though, certainly worth reading at least once in one's life.

I read Metamorphosis in college and I found it very interesting, but I haven't read any Kafka in several years since then. I did watch Orson Welles's version of The Trial. I found it extremely frustrating to get through. I realize it is about a man in a situation that is supposed to be absurd and confusing, but it just wasn't enjoyable to sit through.

I like the rhythm in Kafka and his descriptive power of human psyche, but I also like Wagner's operas so I'm probably just odd
