Title: Can the afterlife really make us happy?
Post by: redhot1 on December 12, 2014, 06:19:17 PM
Sorry about the wrong title and i know these threads were made before. But why is it that the fundamentalist view of the afterlife says we have no bodies we can touch and feel others, or exist on a physical plane like we did on Earth? Why can't the afterlife have more Earth? Why can't it just be everything in moderation. I feel guilty because my beliefs contradict those fundamental beliefs about Heaven I heard of growing up. Sure my mom always said I can have anything beyond my wildest dreams but my dad and other Christians and spiritual/religious people take a more fundamental approach.

Sometimes i wish that I could live life during the era when my parents grew up. That's one of my dream escapes, because aside from the more accepting of trans* people in society in the modern day, I'm very cynical and afraid of the future of mankind in this world. There is more things I'd want to do when i get "there" too.

Jesus said those counted worthy of everlasting life would be neither male nor female but be as the angels.

The Lord showed John on the Isle of Patmos a vision of heaven. During this a person came up to him and he fell down to worship him. That individual said he wasn't the Lord but an angel and told him not to worship him. He should only worship God.

Therefore we can see that we will have new bodies.

Also, it is written that God shall wipe away every tear from every eye and there shall be no more pain and suffering and death.

If we use the word of God as our only final authority then we can believe that life with the Lord shall be both for ever and joyous beyond what we can imagine.

May God bless.

Why can't there be more Earth you ask...

On earth, there's lots of bad mixed with good, with food comes hunger, with love comes loss. . . what do you enjoy on earth? It's the feeling of wholeness and contentment. It's not the food, the sex, the sun, the rain, it's the feeling. In the afterlife (non-Christian perspective here) you'll either keep reincarnating or reach a state of spirituality that your soul merges with the One (sometimes called nirvana). In that state, you'll be fulfilled because all your desires are met by having the feeling of fullness and contentment.

When we desire earthly things, we're not concentrating on wishing to be fulfilled by God's grace, instead we're showing attachment to maya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_%28illusion%29#Sikhism). When we wish for things other than God, we're being distracted from the quest to eventually merge completely with the One.

Once we realize that it's not the activities, physical pleasures, and personal company that we enjoy about Earth, but rather the feeling of contentment/God's presence, you'll realize that the afterlife has all the pleasurable feelings you desire plus more.
