Title: Do you wear your wig at home?
Post by: Sammie Blade on December 21, 2014, 11:03:13 PM
Hello ladies!  I was just wondering this earlier today as I was sitting around in my PJs and enjoying my morning coffee.  My roommate came home from his job (he works overnights) and he said to me "Oh, no Samantha today?" and I just shot him a strange look.  I said "Still Samantha, with or without the wig..."  and he just kind of rolled his eyes and went up to his room.

Then it got me thinking.  Why the hell do I wear the wig anyways?  I mean, don't get me wrong, when I look in the mirror, I want to see a girl looking back at me and that is quite hard to achieve without a wig at this time in my life.  But, I find wigs to be uncomfortable at times, and I don't want to dirty them up when I'm just lounging around my house in my jammies.   Of course when I am getting ready to go out, I will never forget to put my wig on, but I'm thinking about just not wearing it when it's just me at the house.  Before, I needed it to feel like a woman, but lately I feel like a woman anyways.  I wear a bra, I have painted nails, I have a girly eyebrow piercing, I practically never wear any guys clothes anymore... I don't need the wig anymore to feel justified in expressing my femininity anymore.

I used to feel stupid when I would put on my girl clothes without also doing my make up and putting on a wig, but now I'm just like "screw it!  this is me!" and wear whatever I want to.  After laser treatments, I have like a 4 day period where my face is too rough to shave, but I've still gone out in public as a girl with a thick beard shadow, and I just don't really care anymore.  Definitely had some strange looks but that's on them if they are bothered by my appearance.  I love me and I'm not afraid to admit that anymore.

(im not saying "anymore" anymore, I swear)

Most of the time, yes I do...just prefer it that way.

Go with whatever works best for you. Most of the time I try to even keep my wig on at home. This is partially due to the fact the type of work I do can result in people coming over without any prior notice and I don't and could never let them see that bald spot that is filling in on the back of my head. I may tone down the makeup to just some light concealer to cover what little facial hair remains and even the skin a tone a bit, but the wig is more of a must for me than the concealer. Still never feel pressured that you have to use anything you don't want to when you don't want to. It doesn't make us less of a woman for not wearing our wigs or not using other crutches that we use to finish off the look as our bodies make the progress we feel and believe they need to for us to be comfortable in our appearance.

I'm totally lying to myself lol... sitting here on my computer running my fingers through my hair as if I would ever want to take the wig off!

I guess some mornings when I wake up, I don't think about immediately putting it on, so I was thinking maybe I can go without... but nah, I love the way having long hair feels, and hopefully sometime next year my hair will be long enough that I can go without the wig :D

Now, do you sleep in your wig?  I've definitely fallen asleep in my wig a few times.

Fallen asleep with it? Yes, but go to bed wearing it no. I always take it off before going to bed.

I used to wear a wig at home but stopped after my hair grew long enough. I find it more enjoyable to style natural hair.

I don't wear a wig when I'm hanging out at home or with family members. I also don't wear one when I'm outdoors (the wind turns it into a mop very quickly). Instead I wear a hat and let my natural hair (which is now quite long) cascade out behind my hat.

I keep a hat by the door to wear if I get an unexpected visitor.

I used to wear I wig and I would usually take it off, they were kind of annoying to me. I still have short hair because I had to keep it in a military cut until the end of August. I recently got it styled into a pixie and I haven't had any issues with being miss gendered. I do wish it would hurry up and grow longer though the styling thing was just because it was starting to look ridiculous.

Yes, the wig is me, me is the wig... It only comes off for sleep or showers...
