Hi, I have a quick question. How long after therapy did it take for you to get a prescription for hormones?

About three months, but that was from the first therapy appointment when I didn't know what I wanted or if I was even trans at all, then waiting around for the endocrinologist appointment that took forever. From the moment I decided to try hormones to actually eating my first pill, probably about a six weeks. I imagine it can be done far quicker than that.

I did informed consent. That is another route that really doesn't need the therapist's letter and can get you on HRT quicker. But they do ask you some questions and also make you sign paperwork saying you're aware of and accept the risks. I got mine in one appointment after a month wait, but I also see a therapist (but she didn't have to do anything)

My first therapy session was July 10. The letter from the therapist was finished on August 5. If I would have went with this Endo that I have now in the first place I would have been on HRT in August sometime, but since I tried to keep the Endo closer at first it resulted in a delay. By the time we found out the wait to schedule with the Endo in Spokane was 6 weeks and then several months after that to actually see him that we made a course correction and flipped it. So only because of all of that was the script not written tell September 16 and the first patch was applied on 9/20. In retrospect the length could have been just over a month instead of just over 2 months to get the first script for HRT written. It was clear from before my starting therapy as to what was needed and I haven't had any doubts before or after that point of starting HRT. One thing to note is your ability to get in with an Endo can increase the time unless your able to informed consent with another doctor or your primary care doctor. I would also take note that the frequency of your appointments with the therapist and how much ground you have to cover to get the letter can increase the length too unless you have gone the informed consent route.

It took me about 6-7 months to get the hormone letter, and then another 2-3 months to actually get the hormones (in between seeing an endo).
It took longer than usual I think because I am in college and don't have transportation / money. There was a psychological evaluation for example that I could of taken a month earlier, but didn't have the cash on hand.

Where I go they do informed consent and do a blood test and reschedule you for the following month for HRT.
I had to wait 5 months and they worked with my therapist because I was suicidal when I did my intake. 2013 was one heck of a roller coaster ride.

Congrats, I hope all went good for you today!
I had to complete my therapist's 3-months of therapy before she'd produce a letter, but by the time only a few sessions were left we were just ...chatting. Mostly about her transition in the early 1970's and what she went through. It was...odd. Knowledge was so much more difficult to obtain in the past. Glad there are now informed consent clinics today for people who don't have other issues or who can work on the other issues simultaneously with transition.

Find a clinic (do a web search, ->-bleeped-<- has a list, or talk to local LGBT organizations) then make an appointment. They'll take it from there. Or ask your therapist, he/she may know.
But I see you're already past that. :)

I saw my therapist for the first time on the 11th of September. Was referred to an endo and had my first appointment on the 29th of October. Had HRT meds prescribed on the 18th. Began HRT on the 20th of November.
So pretty much two months and a week.

You sound positive, that's great! In my case it took three tries until I found one and she was two counties away (and a bit off her rocker, to boot). In the end though, it was worth it.

It took me almost 4 months to start on HRT, which I did as soon as they let me, and almost 6 months to get a sufficient dosage to begin feminizing. I was ambivalent about HRT at first because I thought it would cause weight gain (which it did not), and now I see estradiol as a miracle substance.
