Susan's Place Transgender Resources

Hello Everyone,

My name is Alana, I've been an occasional cross-dresser, but have come to realize that my true nature is to cross the gender spectrum and embrace my female side.  Since childhood, I've felt that I was female in spite of my actual form.  Along the way while growing up, I had an occasional confirmation of this truth.  Like when I was 12 and began to grow breasts.  It didn't last long and are only 1/2 A sized, but they are there. 

Growing up in a conservative Christian Bible-belt home, I learned to repress this side of me.  To feel shame for feeling like this.  Well, after 46 years, I'm finally free of that shame.  I've started consulting a therapist, to help me on my journey and to learn some coping strategies.  I'm not yet certain where this will lead, hormones - yes, surgery -maybe.  One thing I certain is I hope to look like a tall average middle-aged woman.

Coming out is pretty hard to do in a Chirstian family. It took me years to finally tell people. Coming here is a big step too.

Alana, you're not alone in this.  I've repressed it for > 60 years and am finally admitting it.  Like you, I don't know where my journey will end up, but it's either pursue this or die a very bitter, very angry, very alone man.

Thank you Grace.  This is not my first time to the forum rodeo, so I know how to be a good and respectful citizen.  One of the issues I've had with my previous urge to transition, was lack of information.  I would have pursued it 18 years ago, if I had known what I know now.  Thanks to the support and knowledge available on the web, I feel much more confidant.

My first step is finding a local church that'll be supportive.  I'm planning on visiting our local Episcopal church, I understand they're friendly to Trans people, and I've been to one of there services before with an Uncle many years ago.

As for my family,  I need to have the talk with my wife, then I'm thinking I'll call my little sister.

Thank you Liz.  Like you one of the highlights of my life was no longer feeling guilt about this.  It's really empowered me.  Where ever both our journey's lead, it will be better than where we were.  May you embrace your inner sweetness.

Thank you Gennee!  I feel so much better knowing that I am starting down the path toward unifying my body and my self concept into the female I should have always been.   

BTW do you pronounce that like Jenny?  If so that's a unique spelling.  My wife has her's end with -ie- instead of -y-.  She always hates it when someone who should know better spells it with a -y- or calls her Jeanie/Genie.

Congratulations, girl!  It's an amazing feeling to finally stop lying to yourself.  Better late than never!  I just turned 30, and I am the happiest I have ever been.   It's great to look in the mirror and be like "yeah... that's me!" after looking at an imposter for so long :)
