Hi,

I have searched the boards for this answer but couldn't find anything - so apologies if this has been covered and I've missed it.

I'm going to Garramone next month, and have received his required paperwork - namely the medical clearance. Did you just go to your regular GP for this? Did you need to explain in advance, did you have any problems? Or did you need to go and see someone like Dr. Curtis?

Member name CJ went to Garramone and is from England.  You could PM him.

The medical clearance is from a regular GP. I believe the training and experience of our doctors is equivalent. This letter would say you aer healthy enough to have surgery. I suppose a private therapist would work for the therapist letter. You can call or email his office, as I think there are a lot of patients from the UK who have been to him. I was there with some folks from Ireland.

BTW, would recommend staying at New Beginnings Retreat. They take care of everything for you, make sure you get to appointments, drive you all over, etc. It's probably more economical than staying at a motel.

Yeah, so I went to Dr G over a year ago now so any questions you have, I am more than happy to answer. I got my clearance from my GP and it didn't take much to get him to sign it at all. You would be able to get it from another Dr if you don't see your GP much. Just be totally honest with them and be specifically clear as to what you need from them.

Jay, I remember Leland telling me about a guy (who came from outside the U.S.), who didn't get what Garramone specifically needed (medical clearance wise) from his PCP, so they quickly found him a doc in FL to do his medical clearance.  I mentioned CJ as I knew he was from the same country.

One docs definition of "medical clearance" for surgery may not be the same as another's.  And for all I know, it could be different between countries.  That was my purpose/point.

Thanks mate, appreciate it. Sounds like it's as easy as making an appointment with a GP and just explaining, so I'll do that.

How did you find the flight home? Did you stay the week and then go, or hang on a bit longer?

I thought the guy had FORGOTTEN to get surgical clearance. I would think surgical clearance in the US and UK would mean the same thing. He did not after all really ask for a form or anything. The letter from my PHCP just said something like that she examined me and there was no reason that I was not physically fit enough to handle surgery and anesthesia. I think if you have doubts about what to have your GP write, then you should email Dr G's office.

Keep in mind you won't just be flying but going thru customs.

Yeah, the flight home was better than I expected it to be. I was meant to fly home a few days after post-op but I was fit and ready to fly on the day of post-op. I can only speak for myself but as long as you get up and walk around for a bit on the flight then it is 100% fine. Hope other guys have similar experiences too!

Perhaps a different situation?

I was thinking things like some surgeons requiring an EKG for surgical clearance while another does not.  I just personally think it is best to ask and make sure you have everything covered your surgeon wants, rather than make the assumption that "medical clearance/surgical clearance" means the same thing for all surgeons.  I think that if you are talking different countries the chances of that term meaning different things potentially increases.  Just a thought to pass along.

Well maybe. But I did say if you have doubts you can email their office. I dont' think any question is too stupid to ask because no doubt they have heard everything. The office is very nice, very professional.
