Title: New here, hi
Post by: Joanne Feliz on January 28, 2015, 07:22:31 AM
Hi there, this my first time on this site bout I thought I would join.
I am 39 years old and have just come to terms that I am transgender.
I have always known all my life but societal pressures and family have stopped me doing anything about it until now.  I wish i did this 20 years ago instead of burying my head in the sand with denial.

I saw my endroconologist today but he can't prescribe me HRT, that needs to be done by another person apparently. I can't wait to start living my life again, I'm so excited about the future but also a bit worried that I may be too old and look too mannish to pass successfully.

I will travel to Thailand hopefully just after next Christmas for FFS it is going to cost 30000$ I'm nervous and excited at the same time.

I just can't wait to start living again instead of being trapped all the time in this prison of a body, role etc...

hello, welcome to susan's! :D congrats on coming to terms with your gender identity. people transition at all ages and it won't hinder your passing - it's going to be a journey but I'm sure you'll come out happy on the other side <3

hugs,

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.  10 years ago I used to come to some sites like this but i always closed the webpage because I was scared at accepting who I am.  I dont want to regret looking back but while I was at uni,  in hindsight, that would of been the perfect environment to come out....argh hindsight is a good thing yes?

Anyway is really nice to read the introductions and to know there are people my age and old that have made the leap(across gender barrier).

I have gynecomastia also.  I love having breasts,  they are only small A cup but before I am going on hormones the doctor wants to rule out prolactinoma on the piturity gland.  Basically if you have an enlarged pituitary gland this can cause the brain to produce too much prolactin which suppresses testosterone and has the net effect of increasing estrogen relative to testosterone.  That's why I have grown breasts.  Normally these tumor/growths are benign but I am going to get it checked.

The endocrinologist said if i start taking hormones now I will likely produce a lot of milk which would basically be embarrassing.  I am not sure if I would be like a milk cow but they would get painful and I would need to pump them etc...Personally I think it wold be a nice experience but from a health point of view it needs to be resolved.

It is frustrating that this could delay my HRT therapy though.

Also today I booked an appointment for facial hair removal using laser treatment.  The lady reckons it would take 8 months(once a month) to permanently remove my beard.  I am very much looking forward to losing the beard.  When I went through pubity I hated my body hair.
