Hi all
I recently started seeing a therapist for gender dysphoria. It is something I new I always had, but I always thought I could deal with it. Recently, however, all the news and information on individuals who are transgender inspired me to finally do something about it.
Now my therapist said the path forward is my decision, so I need to make the choice. Everything I've read about dealing with gender dysphoria implies some sort of path to your the gender you feel you are. If given the choice, with no consequences, it would be easy. There are consequences, however, and I don't know if they are worth it.
All that being said, how did some of you make the choice and deal with: what your family and friends did; what it did to your career; or just anything else that you felt caused problems.
As an aside, reaching out to support groups is part of my therapy.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Hello!
I'm Cindy the Forum Admin, welcome!
One of the Mods will come along and post a link to the rules etc.
I'm in Adelaide South Australia BTW. So I'm awake  ( sort of!)
There is a path, it is a funny sort of path because everyone's path is different. They, as they say in the classics, all lead to Rome. But we realise there are many Rome's.
Some of us are transgender women, some transgender men, some cross dressers, some gender fluid. Our paths are all different. But they are also the same in many ways. If you are married, employed, drug addicted, suicidal, depressed, dysphoric, all or part of them - we are all here. Our paths are different.
What is important is how to take that path. The rule is as similarly odd, there are few rules. The only rule of any certainty is one step at a time.
There are many fears, doubts and uncertainties, great sorrow, and great joy.
I do know one thing though. You have found your family and you are most welcome, we know your pain and confusion. We have all suffered from it. Some still do and for many it is a distant memory.
Welcome to Susan's, <cough> the best therapists in the planet
