Hey girls and guys.. So I have finally decided to get my ears pierced. Am feeling super excited and nervous. I can't wait to start my collection of super dangly cute earrings.. It is going to happen this weekend.. Hope it doesn't pain much...
In other news. I updated my avatar pic on Susan's. This pic is really special since it captures one of the happiest moments in my life. It was for the first time here that I did not see a shred of my old self in the pic .. I just love it.. :)

Hugs lovely lady!
I love my pierced ears!
Just remember don't touch them except when your hands are totally clean. I did and got an infection, not a lot of fun!

Lovely pic - it doesn't hurt all that much to get them pierced, although I believe that depends on the method they use. I think mine was more or less like a staple gun - over in a second and barely felt it. Agree with Cindy though, avoid infections at all costs - they will probably give you something to keep it sterile. You won't be able to start using new earrings until the holes heal - usually several weeks. Have fun!!

I had them done in 1977 just after my 20th birthday.I was a biker and grew up in a town with a lot of fishermen so pierced ears weren't unusual. My Grandmother did ear piercing with ice cubes,a darning needle and a book and piece of wood. She did my sister, cousin and Uncle Tim(Granddad's brother)and many others since she was a girl.Don't do this at home!

Congrats Sneha, you look great girl!
My mom and aunt pierced mine when I was 4 but my dad got angry about it and they let it heal back up. It hurt like you wouldn't believe! They did it the old fashioned way with a candle and hot needle.
I'm going to do it again soon. Gonna hurt but what are you gonna do eh?

When we did our daughters' ears they used the gun. They cried of course. They were like 2 years old. But it was at a doctor's office and they did not use an anesthetic, just alcohol to disinfect it.
But it was over in 2 shakes.

Love the new pic!
Please follow all aftercare instuctions to the letter, and please have it done by someone who is a member of the Association of Professional Piercers and not some random hack with a gun. The placement and angle will be correct and it will heal fastest this way.
And please don't do what I did. It's a miracle they all healed right.

There is nothing to piercing your ears. A simple needle with disinfect will do fine. The placement is the most important thing. You want the most flatering position possible. If you are only going to do one hole that's easier than two or more. After the hole is opened with a needle, disinfect a little stud earring & insert. Then just relax, sleep with it, turn it some....It needs to stay in until your hole heals up. I did mine when I was in my teens like most girls. I've added one or two new holes higher up my ear however just a single nice earring looks best on me. Just enjoy GF. Before long you will be driving & putting in your earrings as causal as opening your purse. Just my opinion GF. A girl can never have too many nice earrings.

My ex-wife did my left ear in college one night while I was drunk at a party. She used a needle and a cube of ice.
I did my right ear myself about a month ago after I got tired of having to convert the earrings I liked from pierced to clip on style. I used ice and a needle and then put a stud in.
Like others have said, make sure you keep them clean and disinfected and everything will be great in a few weeks.

Great to hear! I had mine done at a good tattoo parlor last year. Hardly any pain at all. I loooove love love love wearing earrings. :-* I'm still not to the point where I can just take them off anytime. I go through a ritual of cleaning my earrings and my ears with special fluid, alcohol pads, etc. I sleep in them and rarely take them off. So for I have about a dozen pairs or so.
I prefer studs and at first had the butterfly back that REALLY lock on and tough to take off. I recently switched to soft baby backs and I love them. Also, I think my earrings are a big part of why I get called ma'am or miss a lot. ;D

You'll love it. I had mine on my list of things to do during my transition. I'm now at the 1 month point. I had mine done at Claire's in my local mall. I got studs with aquamarine cubit zirconium's, they go well with my blue eyes. The pain was about like a blood draw, just a quick pain. I did have some dull pain after, but it's gone away at this point, nothing to it. The instructions recommend 6 weeks before removing them. I was taking to my electrolysis lady about this and she told me to extend it longer than that, by at least a couple of weeks. It wouldn't hurt, so I'm keeping the studs in for a while longer. Post pictures when you get them put in.
Hugs,
-Alana

I don't think I waited 6 weeks to remove my new one and put on some of the big hoops I had been dying to wear! I just made sure that everything was disinfected good. Sure it hurt a little bit but what's a little pain compared to getting to wear some incredible looking hoops!! [I think I may have a fairly high pain tolerance since I spent about 12 hours last weekend doing self electrolysis at my kitchen table to clear all the hair from my upper lip].
