Title: A sneak peek at Project Phoenix
Post by: Susan on February 08, 2015, 01:49:21 AM
I recently posted in the February newsletter about needing writers. Included below is an example of what I need them for. We are going to be doing something unique in the transgender community. Not only will Susan's Place Transgender Resources be your community, your support network. We will also be the premier news and information network for both Transgender Individuals and for those from the CIS Community who wish to learn more about us.

We need writers who are willing to help contribute on a variety of subjects to get us ready for launch, and we need writers who are willing contribute a set amount of articles per month on a deadline.

You don't have to be a professional writer to contribute, our editors will put the shine and polish on whatever you send to us before publication.

Currently this will be a strictly volunteer commitment, but I expect it will eventually get to the point where we can afford financially show our appreciation to our staff of talented writers.

In addition to stories written by the staff, we will have a variety of ways for non-staff to be able to share their opinions and creative expressions with the Transgender Community.

When officially launched, this will be an unbelievable resource for the entire community.

This is also why I have been asking for people to step up, and to help financially support the site; because it enables us to do amazing things like this!

Looks great Susan. Congrats! I know I waved my hand initially when you asked for volunteers but then the whole needing to do an interview/mumble/various other requirements coincided with something else going on in my life (being made redundant from a 16 year job) and for some reason was massively triggering for me so I just shied away. Sorry.

Really looking forward to seeing how the project pans out!

Looking great! After my exams I'll get right on it, looks like such an awesome project :)

Alas, 11 exams plus coursework means not as much time as I would hope to have.

This looks awesome. I'm a bit torn -- I'm not a bad writer per se I think, but English isn't my native language and this is a "genre" of writing I'm not too familiar with. Could you give some examples of the types of topics on which we would contribute articles?

Thanks :)
Adrian

Once we get done kicking all the tires and get the engine purring the new site is going to be running like a well oiled machine.

Thank-you to all who have written and are working on projects

More staff to be coming so less of a load on everyone

Hugs

Hi Susan,

have you thought about writing a book? Not necessarily just about yourself or this site, as there's some incredible stories to be told from the people here. I'd imagine you could get an advance on it, and it would help promote the site and vice versa. I understand publishers like making money, and this site helping a book sell would probably be of interest to them. A publisher might also be able to get cross-promotion on TV and radio, etc.

While I appreciate news (I think), I really only come here for talking to people and the info that's in the forums. I've found the info in the other sections of the site too out of date and sparse to be of much interest. If you could improve that it would be a huge draw to people like myself (not sure how representative I am of course).

There's also a big chunk of info missing here, which I'll just briefly mention since I think you must have some strong moral object to it. DIY. Perhaps you could get some medical professional involved? I also have the impression that a lot of doctors around the world don't seem to really know what they are doing, so decent articles on that might even help at that level.

Interviews with surgeons, endo's, psych's, etc would be great. Not the normal kind of thing that you see on TV or more general sites, but for people like us. Hopefully you you could get some contributions as it promotes their business. I'd be willing to ask the people I'm involved with if they would contribute, although not with me as an interviewer - I don't think would work out too well.

Hey,

I heard you needed writers. This sounds like an awesome project!

I'm a student journalist currently in my first year of course. Writing is one of my greatest strengths. I might be able to help out by writing, editing or proofreading.

I know I only have ... what, one four posts...? Haven't been here long at all. But I'm interested in knowing a bit more and getting involved.

Hello Izzy,

My name is Giselle, I was wondering if you guys still need volunteers for the the project. I am very good at writing and I have always been interested in presenting information for educational purposes in regards of the whole transitioning project. I am actually working on a personal project building a website for the very same purpose and subject. I am also an avid web developer as a hobby, and I work for one of the biggest companies (General Electric - Capital Financial Branch) as a translator. Perhaps some documents can also be included for Spanish Speaking public, either way in Spanish or English, I would love to be contributor for this project by being one of the writers. Please let me know how I can be of any assistance.

Thank you for your consideration.

Best,
Giselle

Hi Susan,

I just realized I don't understand this project.

I assume a big part of it is to raise more money so you can keep the site going, but where's the money coming from? More donations due to more members, advertising/sponsorship, selling something, something else?

We provide timely and accurate information and educational resources, support and companionship to our transgender members, SOFFAs, and respectful visitors in a safe environment.

  • Provide Information and Education

  • Prevent Tragedy

It's gonna be cool, trust me!

Susan, I do trust you, and that's not something I'd say to many people. I've seen this site, read your story, your terms of service, a number of things you post. Its all very interesting and I think I can judge pretty well from that what kind of person you are. I was more just interested because, well, I don't understand the project and I like understanding things. I should have guessed the answer.

The project will become clear to everyone.

Susan, News Staff and contributing writers have been working very hard to get it ready for launch.

Like anything we are doing tests, chasing bugs and adjusting as we need but all the time I feel will be well worth the wait.

Is this going to be more of a news/commentary site with a forum attached?

The layout looks good btw.

It's about enhancing what we have to offer. I am doing a new comprehensive site design and this is the most exciting part of it. Yes we are adding some new features, but we will still offer the links, chat, forum, wiki, etc. that we offer today!
