Title: Greetings and Salutations!

Wow, this site has to be the most comprehensive database I've seen for, well, anything!
Anyways, on to the meat-n-taters of the post ;D
I go by Julia, I'm 24, MtF (I think). Fairly confused as to who exactly I really am right now, but my health insurance will start in around a month, so I'll be able to seek professional help. In the mean time, I just needed to find a community where I could be among other trans/CD/TV/etc individuals, people who understand my situation. My fiancee has tried, but bless her heart, she just can't wrap her head around what it's like for me.
Anyhow, that's the basics of it. I'm really an open book for the most part, ask me anything (within reason) :D

Welcome to Susan's Place Julia. This a great place to deal with confusion and who you really are. A moderator will be by soon to offer another welcome and info about the terms of service (TOS)
Sometimes it seems the only things we have in common here is being part of the transgender spectrum or rainbow. While each journey is unique I bet you will find some real understanding and support for being your genuine self. Being an old girl I am always happy to see people figuring this out in their youth. It is very challenging for cisgender people to get how this feels for us and your fiancee has the advantage of knowing more about you going into a marriage.
Good luck!

I hope I -can- figure myself out. I don't want to sound all "gloom and doom", but it's hard when 5 days a week you have to be something you're not because being yourself would cost you your job. But, I've got some stuff waiting to be ordered off the internet, getting ready to go clothes shopping (woohoo!), and my SO's family has just been great. They've accepted me better than my own family has! Kind of a sad statement there, but I digress.
Off-topic, how do you upload an avatar? I'm not getting an option to on my profile.

I believe the option to have an avatar comes after you have made 15 posts here.
That is very cool about your in-laws to be. I wonder if that is part of not knowing you as long as your own family? It has been much more challenging for the friends and family who have known me a long time while the people I meet now accept me readily as Tessa.
Shopping is way fun as a girl! I couldn't have cared less about my guy clothes but uh la la the things we can wear as girls/women.
The job deal can be discouraging but depending on where you live there are laws protecting us. That does not change every bigoted heart, of course, and it does take some commitment and strength to go full time on the job. I admire anyone who can do it.

15 posts. Ah. Well, that shouldn't take long, I'm a chatty kathy!
I do wonder sometimes if it's because they haven't known me as long, but I know my parents, and between my mother's conservative christian mindset and my father's "men should be manly" way of thinking, I do have to wonder...oh, when my FtM brother finally comes out to them, they are going to hit the roof! :icon_joy:
I can't wait for the shopping to really go full swing...right now, I "man shop" - I go in, get what I need, ring it up, and blam, I'm out the door...but that's because the last time I got caught looking at women's clothing at walmart, security threw me out for "unnerving female shoppers"...like, really? You're going to skip "might be shopping for his wife/girlfriend" and go straight to "being creepy"? But then, that's what happens when you're trans in Alabama. ::)
As far as legal protection, Kentucky is a "fire at will" state. HR makes up an official-sounding reason to tell you and then you find out from former coworkers later that it was something lawsuit-worthy, but by then it's too late to do anything about it.

Wow your parents are going to have a cow! Two of you, how cool is that? I travel a bit and found the deep south can be testy for me. I will be traveling to Georgia and Florida again soon for a diversity conference and to see family. There is that bible belt mentality but there are plenty of christian trans people here that have worked through it and see themselves as god's children too. I hope your moms love for you will trump the ideology.
Sorry about that walmart episode and yes you are right on about the silly assumptions people make. Wouldn't they want to see sales by any warm body with money? When I first started out full-time my wife or a friend literally held my hand. Lots of trans people shop on line too. I need to touch and feel the fabric and see how it fits.
Plenty of chatty kathys here. When I am out with my friends who are trans we really never stop. Drives my poor wife crazy sometimes and she points out it is trans talk from waking up till we shut off the lights. It is a big deal and some of us need to talk it out;-)

Makes me wish I had trans friends out this way. I had a trans roommate for a while, but all she ever went on about was how "society is trying to keep us down" and "we need to fight for our freedom"...yes, okay, we struggle for social acceptance, but she was talking like she wanted to incite riots and burn down government buildings to get her point across...bit extremist for my tastes. I'm more of the 'sign a petition' or 'spread through social media' type...no need to draw negative attention towards an already ostracized community, am I right? Ah well. I'm sure as time progresses and I begin walking whatever path winds up being right for me, I'll find friends in my area. That's part of why I'm here - I need to be able to talk to people who have been where I'm at, to help me keep my chin up when times get dark. I've got plenty of awesome cisgender friends who have my back 100% of the way, but 90% of them live back in my home town in Georgia. I actually came here from Laura's Playground after being wrongfully accused of illicit activity and IP-banned without a chance to explain myself, I'm hoping to find a better environment here.

Hi Julia,
Guess what? We know how you feel!!
No need to say anything or reveal anything you don't want to. Lots of members are battling gender issues and lots of us have won the battle so never be afraid to ask anything.

Verification question: Are you a human? ...I was so tempted to type a smart-mouthed response just to see how it handled it. Down, girl. Down! This isn't the place for your sass.
Really, at this point, I've got too many questions to even know where to begin asking. My head just...spins...when I start to think about it.

I've got a mouth on me, that's for certain. Part of what makes me believe I'm MtF - I'm just too sassy and sharp-tongued to be male. Guys just revert to insults about sexuality and mothers...I prefer to point out flaws and insecurities ;)

As long as you do so under ToS, otherwise young lady you are brought to the Goddess's office for a telling off >:-)

Oh no no no no no, this is definitely not the place for that kind of talk. I'm here for support and kind words when nobody else will offer them, and I know that to receive that, I have to be willing and able to give that. Trans people catch enough hell from the world around them, they don't need it from sites that are supposed to help them. My intention is to be friendly as a puppy here. After all, you get what you give, and if someone lit into me in the same way I can light into others...I shudder at the very thought of receiving a dose of my own medicine.
