Title: Height shrinking vs genetics

Hi!
I've read a lot of topics and posts regarding to the height shrinking here on Susans.
I have a question for girls which have 'shorted' - how tall are your brothers/sister/parents/grandparents?
Maybe here is the clue why you've shorted?
I am 6'1"/6'2" height, but i am half Hispanic. My sister and mum are 5'3" and dad is 5'4/5'5 (he is Hispanic), so the difference of height between us is very high. Grandparents and others relatives from my family are also very short.
I'm quite wishful thinking about my height shrinking, and was wondering if it can be related thanks to the genetic and family.
How is your family? Short or high?

I shrunk an inch from 5'5" to 5'4" due to posture differences between how I presented male and how I present female. My back has a much more pronounced "S" curve now. For reference, my mom is 5'2".

In my case there was no shortening of height that I'm aware of, I think if there's any truth to this then it would probably only affect your height like a half inch to an inch max, however, if there is a lot of muscle mass to your body, you can imagine how that would take away a lot of the looking big because of shoulder and arms muscles. A woman and a man that are the same height, often don't look like they would be, simply because men have the strapping look to the shoulders and arms.
Another thing is your width, wether HRT turns out to do a good job and you become curvy ( more likely if you are already slightly overweight). Or if you are very skinny then that tends to elongate people. So that's something to think about. Make the dimensions of your body be in proportion won't make you shorter but will help make you look good. Also contrasting your tops with your bottom clothing helps when very tall as it divides your dimensions, whereas wearing let's say denim with a navy top will elongate you as there's no clear line of division.
The same tricks work the opposite ways for those who seek to add height if too short some tgirls might be short but bulky. Adding some visual length might add softness you need, or maybe you are average height or tall but with a typically male torso, in this case adding height to the legs with pinstripe pants or straight leg jeans helps elongate them and give your torso a more feminine look by comparison.
It's surprising how tall you are with a father and mother at such short height, regardless, you can just own being a beautiful tall woman and shop at long tall sally! ;) there is one thing though, you will have to make sure your mannerisms and behaviour are pretty fem and up to standard as tall women usually get more attention than short ones.
Good luck xx

My mother is 5'6", my sister is 5'2", and my father is 5'9". My sister's the exception in our extended family, though, she's just tiny. :)
Personally, I think I lost an inch or so in part because I simply stand differently - tilting my pelvis and curving my lower back makes me look and present shorter even if I *could* stretch uncomfortably hard and get some of that height back.
I'm pretty sure genetics affect how tall you grow during the first puberty, but once that's set and the bones are finished, I doubt genetics alone can *undo* it later on.

Hi Emma,
My sisters are 5' and 5'4". My mother at her highest was probably 5'5". I'm 5'10" and haven't started transitioning yet. My brother is 6'4". I would hope I lose an inch or two if I transition.
Paige :)

My mom is short, like 5'3". My dad is short as well, 5'5". My brother is 5'11" My other brother (different father) is slightly taller than me but he's 21 so he's still growing a bit.
I was 5'8", now I am 5'6 1/2" both barefoot and I'm sure I verified those heights.
I have no idea why.
As a man I was sad not to be tall. But as a woman, I am happy about my height.

Well, people do in fact lose height. Whether or not it is related to hormones is a different story.

I'm in my 20s. I don't want to go the osteoporosis route just yet so I can lose an inch or two

I think maybe the older mtf women shrink some, that's just a theory tho.. I personally didn't shrink at all except maybe like a half inch due to my back having a little more curve to it, not like sideways osteoporosis-ish, but front to back. However both my mom and dad have shrunk a ton as they have aged, so that may be a bonus of getting older for me idk.

Yup we do, apparently, part of aging, depends on them there genes tho...
No idea if I have or not, definately try to always stand straight and shoulders back... Especially now that my hips and shoulders are within an inch or so of each other :P

Both my folks are about 5'10" and I'm 6'1". There's height on both sides of my family.

Funny, just yesterday I had my first bone density exam.
My endo booked the appointment to ensure osteoporosis is kept in check.
One of the questions they asked is if I had lost more than 1.5 inches in height in past 5 years. I've lost 1.25 inches....so I may have some risks.
My endo has already lectured me about doubling my daily intake of calcium, and not via supplements, but milk, yogurts and cottage cheese.

Just to compare: it would be more logical FTM would grow taller from testosterone use but they don't....

I used to be 5'10" and now I am 5'8" after years of HRT. My parents were pretty average for their genders I would say, Dad is around 5'9" and Mom is maybe 5'3".
