Title: Making First Contact

I think I've found a potential therapist to try who is recommended by several TG resources, both in my local area and online. Even though I've been in and out of therapy constantly, I was shuffled to them without insight into the process of choosing and getting the first session. I freeze up and can't think when I talk over the phone for contact of any kind, so email would probably work best.
I'm hesitant to get a referral from a third party or talk with the family doctor about anything... though maybe I should try that first? I recently changed doctors and I have yet to meet my new ones. I would like to keep my intentions known to as few people as I can right now.
Should I try and send an email? If so, what should I write? Should I get a referral first?

Hi Hollow Wind!
I would go ahead and send an email if that is what you are most comfortable with. As far as what to say I've always found it best to be as honest as possible right away. They are there to help you and they are very safe to talk to. They will help you sort through what you are feeling! Most of all be honest with yourself! You can't get help without being honest with yourself.... Tell who you are and a little about yourself. Make an appointment to meet and see if they feel right to you. Always remember that not all therapist will feel comfortable for you and that's okay. I wish you the best of luck on your journey and may the Angels always look upon you and help guide you on your path!
Much Love,
Melissa Ann

Do what is most comfortable with you. Also speak with your Doctor because they may be able to refer you to someone who will be willing to work with you.

Well, after staring at it for hours on end then falling asleep... I sent an email to that therapist. I am not sure what to expect beyond this point. I should probably finish filling out forms for the new doctors, however.
Anyway... since I can't really turn back on my direction, it would be best if I study and practice for the road ahead.
It's a great relief to send even one paltry message, whether it goes somewhere or not.

When I was living out in the boonies, essentially working for 'Uncle Sam' and looking for a therapist, I just emailed or called to set up a quick 10 minute talk to feel them out.
At the end of the day, what I learned from my local TG Support Group was the best referal

I suppose to conclude, it took me forever to do it but I did it. I'll be going for a first session in about 2 weeks.
