Title: Name change being confusing

So, I am now passing quite wonderfully on around 2 months on T and I am confident enough to use the male toilets as well with no problems. I also finally got my letter from my treating doctor that I can officially change my sex marker on pretty much all my documents (except my birth cert so far)
Now that I got all this working, I'm hoping to change my name before my birthday in around another 2 months time So I can celebrate my 21st as James. But I'm stuck on my name change application. I can easily use my letter for my reason to change my name as I'm simply thinking of putting down "Gender transition from Female to Male" but I'm actually stuck on ticking witch sex for my current details. The price for the app is high and I got hardly any cash, so I don't want to have a single failed app.
Do I tick female as that's what it states on my current birth cert? (I have to return that with the form as well so they will see it)
Or do I tick male as that's what my letter is stating?

I would call the courthouse and check the laws in your area. Since you are applying for a name change, unless that paperwork also clearly states that it can be used for gender marker changes, I would say better safe than sorry. Where I'm from I know its a separate process all together.

That is probably a good idea, I didn't think of that. It's a name change application only sadly, I am still a bit unsure on how the gender marker process goes in Australia

I'm in the U.S. so this may not help you, but it is a separate document here. Unless I have already delivered my gender change form to the Department of Motor Vehicles and updated my documents to reflect being male, I need to fill the name change paperwork out as female.

well I'll still ask the court house just in case but its probably best to tick female for now. Doing a quick search in gender laws, turns out there's no form to fill out for gender marker change and my letter would be perfect for changing it alone. (please correct me if i have a bit of wrong info)
