I am so amazed at how ignorant the world can be. This is a hateful b(^&^&tch . I am full time now.. can u imagine.. if a full time MTF or FTM had to use the opposite bathroom.
Its like she is saying its illegal to be trans.
I hope these types of bills do down in flames like they should..

You know, I love Texas for a lot of things (the barbecue, the spaciousness and the economic freedom) but I really despise some of these people who want to live in the dark ages...
FWIW this is the bill in question.
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/tlodocs/84R/billtext/pdf/HB01748I.pdf#navpanes=0
I predict if this passes it will only result in a transgender equivalent of Rosa Parks.
I don't think the Governor is THAT brave though.
This is the offending part:

So, we may have to submit to blood tests to use the facilities in TX? Puh-Lease.

Even though I am from Oklahoma.. I would be seriously considering falling on the sword and going to Texas.. go into our(womans) restroom and call 911 and turn myself in.
I am fuming about this.. seriously.
These lawmakers do not know who we are they are just ignorant and its sad that there are still people on the planet like that..
But, I do not think it will ever pass.. still, what it says to young trans kids and people struggling is that there is something wrong with us. Yes and that is why we transition to be cured.

The law is also genetically incorrect.
There are over 500 reported cases of natal females who have given birth and during routine genetic testing where found to be XY.

Of course not without calling all major networks
What is most scary would be getting locked up with a bunch of dudes

Does that mean you could not have a janitor or other maintenance worker of the opposite gender do work in the restroom? Or (considering that Texas is in Tornado Alley) take shelter from a storm in an opposite-gender restroom?

This recent trend of "bathroom bills" seems to be nothing more than a modern day witch hunt.
Transgender people have been around this entire time, yet only recently, when we have finally begun to find our voice and make forward strides does the resistance and paranoia get crazy.
When women in colonial America began to find their voices and resist tradtional subjugation, they could be falsely accused of consorting with the devil and be put to death.

I just cannot see how this is in any way enforceable with any feasibility. Unless they plan to install urine collection processes in the toilets to create an alert and some red flashing light outside of the restroom, how in heck are they gonna know what chromosome you have or have not?
I think Dodie is right, it will never pass. See what I did there? It is not passable. See that? How do they like it!? Hmmmm? We have pretty much clocked that BS House Resolution...

This is a law that cannot be objectively enforced. So basically, if you pass well, nobody will suspect a thing and it's OK, but if you don't pass well, you get a criminal record for it. We cannot have laws enforced by subjective standards, and certainly not standards that vary from individual to individual.
I was once in a public restroom at a concert in Vegas. While I was in line a woman yelled, "There's a f***ing MAN in here! Get the f*** out, or I'm calling the police." At first I was sure she was referring to me, but then I saw the very butch lesbian with unshaved facial hair that she was pointing at. Can you imagaine the lawsuits that cases like this could spawn if this law was passed? It will create plenty of problems while solving none.

Whilst doing some research for my group tomorrow in the pages i've printed off is something that now springs to mind,
In 1979, a number of people in Sweden called in sick with a case of being homosexual, in protest of homosexuality being classified as an illness. . . . . . . . .Within a few months Sweden became the first country in the world to remove homosexuality as an illness.
I love history

I also consider this a response from the religious right wing that has been loosing badly in the gay marriage arena and needs another fresh meat scare to throw to the faithful and scare them into greater allegiance and $ contributions that will keep them "safe."

Exactly. They remind me of a basketball team that commits a series of flagrant fouls at the end of the game when they are down 25 points and guaranteed a loss.
Game over. You lost.

Perfect analogy. Yep they are loosing and may soon be relegated to the dustbin of wacko history as transgender people are finally becoming noticed and real to people in this country. The impact of social media to counter and avoid censorship is huge. It can be scary to see the world change when they once had all the power and answers figured out and codified. Now they get laughed at with a reflexive angry response not completely different from what happened to some French cartoonists. I was recently in Miami, a city that reflects the demographic truth that most people are not white christian conservatives. It suggests more of that proverbial melting pot and wonderful mosaic of culture and color. Diversity, how refreshing!

The sad part is that these baseless fears are about the male to female walking into a ladies restroom but what would happen if they pass this and the female to male's had to go into the ladies room because of their genetics. This is going to be a strange problem for them to deal with to have women that look like men in the ladies room. I mean this is not going to fly because they're not gonna be comfortable no matter what.

http://montrealgazette.com/life/transgender-rights-buck-angel-calls-for-gender-neutral-bathrooms (http://montrealgazette.com/life/transgender-rights-buck-angel-calls-for-gender-neutral-bathrooms)
Gender-neutral bathrooms may seem like a good solution, but it can work in just one way - only gender-neutral bathrooms everywhere for everyone.
Otherwise, if they are added just as a 'third option' or if there is any degree of 'enforcement' about who should go where, then it will simply lead to the same subjective issues that have already been discussed.

I think the true ignorance here is the erroneous thinking that transgender people are rapists and sexual deviants who are going to the restroom to rape molest or stock women instead of the truth which is they just want to go in there to take care of business and get back out. The sad part is that everybody is focusing on the ladies room but nobody is focusing on the men's room. What are you guys going to say or do when what appears to be a female walks in to use the facilities. They may not claim that they are going to be raped or molested but they might feel uncomfortable simply because they are not comfortable with transgender persons. And this is where this argument goes to hell because you just can't tell somebody they can't use the ladies room and they can't use the men's room. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Exactly. And the only places where I have seen single-user, gender-neutral bathrooms are a few small restaurants etc.
For a large facility, a row of such single-user bathrooms would be simply uneconomical, so the only feasible solution is to let people go in a place consistent with their presentation.

Let's play a game.
This bathroom has four stalls. Each stall hides one individual.
Individual A looks feminine, but has masculine chromosomes.
Individual B looks masculine, but has feminine chromosomes.
Individual C looks feminine, and has feminine chromosomes.
Individual D looks feminine, but has klinefelter's (XXY) chromosomes.
They all come out of the stalls at the same time. According to the law, who is getting arrested. According to reality, who will get arrested?

The conservative party has an extremely narrow view on men and women, and anything outside of that view is seen as deviant. A person going into the restroom of the gender they identify with and gets labelled as a deviant is seen as something bad or dirty by even those who may otherwise support the lgbt community, when in fact, just being a sexualy involved homosexual, or being a cross dresser, regardless of passability, is considered deviant.
Deviant is an extremely broad term that many have a narrow view of.

Apologies for being late to the party. Hope it's not to late for my comments.
I think this bill won't go anywhere in its current form. It's too harsh on the intersex community to survive even a cursory debate.
My problem is that it will be amended to look like the florida law that requires using the restroom that matches the ID. That one already passed committee there, and has the sinister effect of targeting only the most vulnerable members of our community while leaving most of us OK.

I don't like gender neutral bathrooms as a permanent option. It helps those of us in between until we gain confidence but I like going to the ladies. It's cleaner and yes it's affirming.

Suzie so true,
My OKlahoma ID matches what I look like but I can't get an F on it until after GRS.
Don't mean to brag but I can't pass as male now at all even without makeup.. so what happens to me if I have to use the mens room..
For one thing I would throw up and then possibly be harassed or worse.
It would be like making us come out to strangers we don't know just so we can pee.
I think these people are just like the kids that are bullies but are adult bullies. They bully the most vulnerable and use them to their own advantage or gain in politics.
Anyway this one really pissed me off....no pun intended.
I had planned to go stealth in life but now thinking maybe there is a fight I need to join ..

This is another problem with this country. I have not had GRS, but my California DL has an "F" on it. If Dodie and I went to FL, came out of the bathroom at the same time and got carded, she gets busted and I don't, just because we are from different states.
We need this addressed on a national level, so that all transgender Americans enjoy the same rights and protections as we have in California.
Trangender Civil Rights Act, anyone?

Likewise I can change mine in NJ. As a bonus I can change my naturalization certificate (which is federal) and I won't even have to disclose trans status. Ever. Meanwhile someone born in some states can't change it without surgery and even then some states will leave your history intact.

I was trying to find out more about the #wejustneedtopee campaign and came across this article quoting Buck Angel:
http://montrealgazette.com/life/transgender-rights-buck-angel-calls-for-gender-neutral-bathrooms (http://montrealgazette.com/life/transgender-rights-buck-angel-calls-for-gender-neutral-bathrooms)

Jill
Funny thing is that in TX u can get the F
That M on my DL won't go away until srs
I am all for a civil rights bill for us
That's one reason I may not stay stealth and shack things up
I feel I owe it to others and the younger generation
Just as others have paved the path for us

I'm starting to think I'd like to see a bill prohibiting public bathroom use for those who present as christian--but aren't.
