So, today was the first time I passed. The woman at the bookshop asked, 'what's your name, young sir?'. I would have felt unbelievably happy - except that I answered her question with my birth name before the 'young sir' had fully registered. She looked at me a bit awkwardly, and I hadn't the courage to tell her that no, you were actually right. Cursed myself the whole way home. But really, why make such a big deal over something so small? Why start a whole new thread over it? Strange how much little things can matter.

Not silly -- natural. Next time, you'll be better prepared, and able to enjoy the experience as you should. It's wonderful to be seen as who you really are!

Simple things in life bring a  ;D  we just need to settle into our life to allow it to sound natural to us.

But it was a young sir so that'sthe iimportant thing.

I'd say cherish the pronouns you got... hope for more...

and next time something similar happens you might say something along the lines her first impression was right... you'd prefer it that way :)

I do the same thing you do. The truth is, if its important to you, or detrimental to you, if it bothers you enough, it is important. Dont minimize the situation just because you feel like it shouldnt matter so much to you, because it does matter to you, and that is all the counts.

On a lighter note, congratulations on passing, im sure plenty of us are a bit envious:)

Glad you got gendered properly, wish I could have seen their face with the "oops" name, cherish the funny and next it'll be better (probably ;D )

One of the first times I worked up the nerve to use my chosen name at Starbucks, the barista asked me how to spell it -- and I froze!  Awkward blank face.  Of course I know how to spell it, but at that moment the name was so new to me that I really had to think about it and spell it out in my head first.

too many stories of starbucks horrible spelling habits are just swimming through my head right now :)
