Title: pre-everything but sometimes afraid of people

Last years I've had this funny thing happening... I still present as male - don't shave very often cause my face gets irritated very easily.
Sometimes I may pass by weird neighborhoods or encounter strange or just "scruffy - tough looking" men.
Then, for a few moments I may get afraid but then I remember I still look as a guy.
I feel as if I'm wearing a façade and it takes almost conscious effort to remember what I look like.
Anybody feel/ felt similarly?
