Title: Still cannot sit
Post by: Meditrina on March 23, 2015, 12:50:19 AM
I am currently in Bangkok a one week after surgery. My catheter is due to come out tomorrow. I know i am a slow healer. But i still am unable to sit on anything. My right aide, where the anchor stitching was, causes extreme pain. If i try to sit it feels like someone placed a needle on the seat. Also, while laying in bed. I am limited to being on my left ornright side only. As that same area hurts if i am on my back. I am thinking that myaby the Doctor maybe hit a nerve there when he made the stitchinh. Which all came off last thursday. My wifey and I are suppose to fly out march 31st. I am worried i will not be able to sit long enough to make it even through take of and landing and the 3 hour layover in tokyo. Anyone else have this issue???

To sit with comfortable non aassisted help will be about a month or so.

Lots happened down there.

Healing is normally a year or so to be fully healed if no complications.

Relax and do not over do things and end up making issues down there.

Listen to your surgeon and doctors.

Pretty sure you aren't supposed to sit on anything without a "donut" or another sort of pillow that removes pressure from the surgical site until 3 weeks have passed...

They gave me a donut. Which works. I am limited to a very short time. Certainly not flying back to the states kind of sitting. Just starting to get a little anxious i am not going to be able to sit for the flights. I was so uncomfy on tge way out. I literallybwas standing on the second flight from tokyo to bangkok cause the seats we so close together i could not recline cause knees were in seat in fron of me. Only way to sit qith the donut right now. Is in a very reclines position due to the tender right side. There is no way i can get in this position on the planes.

I've no experience myself, but what did the doctor say? Is it normal at this point? If its not you probably should be looking at staying longer anyway so you can make sure its ok when you get home.

That kind of suggests the available options. Hope it gets better in the next week, change your flights and stay longer in Bangkok, fly business class, or get some drugs for the flight. None of which are particularly appealing I'd imagine.

i am using a donut and even still popping morphine pills. Which is why i am leaning on a possible nerve got hit idk. Catheter comes out in about 9 hours. Cannot sleep either cause cannot get comfy. Morphine seems to do nothing to deaden the pain as it is juat sonacute when sitting. Hopefully removing the catheter and one more week before why fly out will be enough time for it to heal enough. Looking forward to showering once catheter comes out. Just not sure when i get to stopnthe manual betadine/ant- bacterial cleanings will be. Will find out when insee doctor today. Kimda of regretting not waiting another year for an english speaking doctor in the states. The language barrier pain in the ass. Literally. Haha!

I was shocked how some of the girls were sitting on their donuts and chatting over breakfast a week or two after surgery.... I couldn't sit without serious pain for a month or more, and a feeling like I was perched on a tennis ball for six months. It wasn't quite the pain you described, I more imagined all the blood in my body rushing down there to try to go through blood vessels that had been severed.... a strange but very bad feeling! It does go away, but I'm glad Suporn put us up for 4 weeks post-op, which I mostly spent on my back. For the flight home, I popped more Tramadol than I can remember (literally of course:) and that made it okay. As an aside, I was assured that dilating on a return flight (no matter the length) was NOT needed, and this proved correct, so at least don't worry about having to do that in an airport somewhere...

Good luck!

My first couple days following surgery, I stood a lot! Never got used to using the donut and left it behind.
Even six months later, especially after a dilation, I still need to lie down for a few minutes.

I had some issues with this after my surgery too. It took more a little over a month to be able to sit comfortably.  I'm gearing toward 2 month post-op right now and girl, sometime, I still have some issues sitting.  For example, I can drive now but if I hit a pothole or a bump on the road, it causes some pain.  At work, I have to sit down slowly.  Like the other girls have said, take it slow and expect the healing to take some time.  :)

Also, congrats on having your surgery :)

It took me 7 mths before I could sit properly due to golf ball feeling about 2 mths before I could drive but I did have a hernia done at the same time.

Just wondering if anyone has tried sitting on a fitness ball?  I'm thinking of getting one for my post op.  If it doesn't work i guess it's still good to have lol.

It took me a long time to be able to sit comfortably.   At six weeks, I could sit for a couple of hours, but had to go lie down to let the swelling subside after that.

I didn't fly from Bangkok, but my flight was 9 hours.   It was miserable, no doubt.   I doubled up on pain pills and survived.   It took a few days after coming home to be able to get up again.

It all seems so difficult.   But, two months after surgery I was back at work full time, and in two months after that riding a bicycle without discomfort.  I probably would have done better but needed hip surgery the month after that.
