Title: FTM, married to Omnisexual, wondering how transition will affect our marriage...

Hi there! I'm an FTM, pre-op, pre-t, pre-everything. My husband (a cis-male omnisexual) and I have been married for twenty years in a bout a week. He's been so supportive about my transitioning, but a question has come up that I cannot find an answer to. Will my transitioning to male affect our marriage in any legal capacity?

Suddenly, a wild guesser appears!
If same-sex marriage is legal where you are, I'd have to say no. Any other situation...

In the states marriage is at the time of the union and will not effect in transition. Just unfortunately its the one thing that you can not update. It always will be.
So you are good with the background baggage if it ever comes to being needed.

Hi Zac,
As Lori Lorenz said, it depends on where you are.
In my country (Germany) married couples used to have to get divorced because same sex marriages are not allowed. A trans woman went to court to fight this law and she won, so even if same sex couples cannot get married here (they can only enter a "civil union"), couples where one partner transitioned cannot be forced to get a divorce anymore afaik.

Thank you all so much. We live in the U.S., in Missouri, where same-sex marriage is (for now) illegal. But we're willing to move, because dammit, we've had those marriage benefits for 20 years now. We deserve to keep them!
