Title: Were you supposed to be born the opposite sex?
Post by: Ender on August 28, 2007, 04:17:53 PM
Here's a question a friend of mine posed after he found out that we were both supposed to be born the opposite sex (the docs were predicting male for me and female for him).  Funny how that ended up: I'm a transsexual male and, though he is not TS, he does have some very stereotypically female characterisics/behaviors.

So--how many people here were supposed to be born the opposite sex?  Also, please indicate if you identify as TS, TG, androgyne, etc.

My parents never found out ahead of time.  I'm a twin (I have a sister) and I'm MTF TS.  Having twins was enough of a surprise for my parents, let alone finding out years later that they were really both girls. ::)  I'm not sure how to answer your poll though since I identify as female, so I guess I'll answer "other".

Yeah I can relate to your friend I have a lot of female behavior too in that I communciate like a woman. I don;t know if I was supposed to be born a female or what: but my chest is not muscular at all: it feels like I was meant to have  a female chest its just that I have no female breasts since I was born male. I sort of have a body like Jessica Alba in that I;m just very slender. I also have my moms facial features expect that I am male.

I identify as an androgyne.

I don;t what to pick on your poll.

My parents never asked the sex of there babies and they haven't done thought out my sisters.
When my mother was giving birth they never said if it was a boy or a girl.

However with my sisters, my parents where told that they where boys..

Ultrasounds weren't routine way back when, in the middle ages when I was in utero.
The doc did say he could tell by the heartbeat it was a girl though. :P
He was right about the sex, wrong about the gender.

The doctor predicted female here, although, for some reason my heart stopped beating a month early to my parents due date, so I was born that day.  I guess the doctor was wrong though, haha.  My parents didn't even know of a guy name to name me, so the first one they chose on my birth certificate they didn't like they changed it.  Now my birth certificate has a nice little white out mark on it.

Yah, the naming thing happened with me too, except my parents had a boys' name all picked out and were pretty unprepared for a (supposed) girl.  Took 'em a good week to pick out a girls' name they liked, since they disliked Erica, the female equivalent of the boys' name they had decided upon.

My Grandfather <Dads dad> predicted a boy.... <Grumble grrrrrrrrr>

The doctors said girl... and kept that opinion till the day I was surgicaly removed from my mothers body...  My parrents were prepaired for a girl... toys... clothes... all that junk...  hahaha... jokes on me  X(

Anyways as the story goes... we <my mother and I> were in the hospital two weeks, they wont tell me why. Before they would release us, my mom had to come up with a name for me...  She and my father had been fighting over this sence the C-Sectoin and neither could agree on a boy name... <it had taken them months to agree on a girl name LoL>  My mother, frustrated with the whole situation named me after my father <oh, you evil ....  how could you *crys*> When my dad come to pick us up, he asked her "Well, what off the wall name did you give the kid?" she repplied "yours"   Well, end of story... finaly got out of there...  Ive shown myself to be extreemly on the feminen side from the moment I could walk and talk... my parrrents must have been blind LoL......   If the doctors had been right about the biologics my name would have been Megan Brianna Owen....  oh well...  as I said jokes on me...  Thanks allot grandpa...

Yep, my parents thought I was going to be a boy. Not sure why. But they had a boy name picked out, and hadn't prepared at all for a girl. The boy name was Howard. Gah.

My parents just knew I was going to be a girl.  They had lots of girl things all picked out, as well as girl names.  They were shocked to see that little appendage.  I've been told all my life that I should have been a girl.  My eyes, my feet, my hands are like clones of my mother's.  Not so with any of my brothers.

I heard the story of a doctor who "was always right" in his prediction.  He would tell the mother one thing, and put the opposite in his file.  If what he told her was right, the parents were happy.  If they said he was wrong, he would pull out his file and say, "See?"

My folks had both a male and female name complete with middle name picked out. They did that with all 3 of us.
Now I've taken the male name they had chosen, but kept my original middle with some tweaking. ;)

My mom often tells me about how she always knew I'd be "her Rachel." She says she knew from basically my conception that I would be female. She'd always wanted a "little girl," and she figured that was what she'd get... go figure. She called me Rachel throughout her pregnancy with me... guess it's funny I hated the name from as far back as I can remember. Now, after I've gotten married to a woman and am living as a man, she's trying to be accepting... but she still swears that I am her daughter and always will be. No ultrasound, just my mom's gut feeling. But hey... even if the docs had thought I'd be male, would it make any difference? I have lived my life as I have, and I rather like the way it's turned out.

Naw, it wouldn't have made any difference really.  People make mistakes predicting the sex of babies before they're born quite a bit, it seems.  But for transpeople, who may have been predicted to be the sex they're transitioning to, it just seems especially bittersweet... minus the 'sweet.' *sigh*

Actually, my mom sez that she 'in her heart, knew' that she was gonna have a girl, despite the insistence of nurses and the doc that she was gonna have a boy.  Well, they were both right, 'cept one made a correct call on the sex of the body and the other the identity of the mind.

My parents had picked up Joshua for me, but when I came out as a girl they had to quickly figure out a girl's name for me. I ended up with the name of flowering vine they happened to see on the way home from the hospital. It has been hellish trying to get away from that name because it is ridiculously feminine. What's worse is my sister ended up with the name Jourdan, and I'M the TS one. :\

I was born male. The Dr. said " girl". My mom had a girls room set up for me. A girls babyshower. girls clothes. Then she had a girl with a penis. Then she beat the fact I`m a boy into me.  That only made a hateful girl out of me.   >:D

I was supposed to be male. My mom was all prepared to 'give it away' if it indeed had a penis. Then she found out years later that it is going to get a penis and is really male and she can't wait to get rid of 'IT'. *mutter mutter*

I was predicted to be female my mother was so convinced of it that even after I was born male she tried to name me melissa but my father wouldn't let her. Damn him at least then I wouldn't need the name change!
