Hi. I am new to this site but my google searches have taken me here several times over the last few years. Early on it was because I was trying to determine if I was transgender and later the steps involved in transitioning.
What took me here today was researching songs related to being transgender. There was a post dating back 2 or 3 years ago. I think I visited that same post many months back or a similar thread on this site. That was where I learned of the song, "She Was Never He" by Boy George. I have listened to that song many times on my ipod. I think it explains what beings transgender is like very well. It is one of the songs I listen to on rough days.
Anyhow, I was finally compelled to sign up. I'm glad I did. I have never been apart of an online community for transgender individuals before. And right now, I think the information and support will be helpful.
I always feel odd summarizing who I am in a paragraph or so. It is difficult to decide what information is important to divulge and which isn't. Obviously you cannot express your entire personality and life story that simply. In fact, that might be impossible to completely explain in words. But this does provide a good place for me to say something I think is central to my personality. I am a thinker, always questioning and pondering. I have always enjoyed that. While it makes me anxious or depressed sometimes (your head can be a scary place to spend too much time in), I enjoy it greatly. Imagination and curiosity are things I highly value.
As for the typical introductory information, I am an eighteen year old male from the United States. I work part time as a cashier and will soon graduate High School. I would like to get a PhD in psychology and become a research psychologist. I love nature and writing. I adore dogs and wolves. My best friend is my Havanese. Red is a good color in my opinion.
Now for the details related to this site in particular. I am an ftm. Currently I am in the very early stages ofthe transition process. I have taken testosterone for two months, but there is no notable changes as of yet. My family and friends are very accepting. I have already socially went from female to male pronouns as well as my name. At school I can even be in the co-ed gym class and used the nurse's bathroom (very happy). I have seen a therapist for almost 3 years about being transgender. I also have anxiety so she helps with that too. I have the diagnosis of gender dysphoria. I'm going through the proper channels. I feel good about my progress.
Currently I am coming out of a very depressed and anxious state. It is not gender identity related. I am however trying to get to what defines me as a person, getting back to the core of myself. Often with work and school, I feel drown out by all the stress and external stimuli. I'm very much an introvert so I do not have time to recover from all the socialization and stress afterwords. I withdraw in my room on my computer then go out to do it again, slowly getting more worn down until I have an emotional breakdown. It is a very bad cycle I have gotten myself in. So over this spring break I am focusing on my mental well-being. Joining this site seems like a good step.
I am excited to be here and look forward to getting to know the community.
