Post by: Terra on August 29, 2007, 05:19:51 PM
If you have never seen this movie, check it out. It will force you to look at the world we live in with new eyes. Even if you don't agree with it, I hope you at least will consider the message.

It's pretty much completely wrong.  But it's fun to let yourself go and pretend what they are saying is true.  THAT'S a fun trip and well worth the ride.  Like it's like listening to the crazy guy on the corner of the street make conspiracies.  They sound fanastic, and you wish they were true, but they are at the end of the day just delusions.

What's your objection to it specifically, Sarah? Your review didn't convey any information. I didn't have 2 hours to watch the whole thing right now, I only saw the first half hour of it, but it looked pretty interesting and had stuff worth knowing about.

Well it's like how they say that if you look at anything it looks like it's part of some plan.  Like the whole movie is based on building loose connections between stray events to have fun with your imagination.  It's a fine movie to like sit and be entertained by.

I remember because I have actually done religious studies, that they were playing very loose with the "facts" so that it fit the connections they were trying to make.  If something didn't quite fit, they didn't not use it, they just got rid of the parts they didn't like and kept going.

Joseph Campbell actually hits at some of the underlying themes in his work without becoming a conspiracy nut.  Like there are some thematic similarities that fall through all human consciousness for obvious sociological reasons.  Unfortunately this movie is pretty lazy academically, and is more interested in a fast point than a good one.

Like their rundown of things that Horus did is not correct and is based almost wholly on a source that is academically scorned.  like so much of the first part if you've ever taken any religious studies, or studied egypt or anything you would just know to be stretching it, at least in the cases where they aren't just flat wrong.

I agree with Sarah about the religious part, in fact it didn't jive with the rest of the movie and felt out of place. I just couldn't see the point to the arguments when compared with the second and third parts. Besides, i'd have to do alot of legwork before I give up my faith so easily.

As for the whole big conspiracy? I don't buy it, its just to big for the common folk to never have heard about it. To many people would have to be in the know and the more people that know a secret, the less likely its is to remain one. But the arguments around the 9/11 attack however do make sense, from what I have heard and my own research. I don't buy the attack bringing those buildings down, the physics and the remains leave to much in contridiction to the report. I do agree that there needs to be a new investigation with independent investigators.

So anyone else want to weigh in? What did you agree with, if anything?

That movie is true. Unfortunately. It is hard to see how corrupt our government is.
