If I were to somehow be in one of these states (let's stretch our imaginations here), and I were to be caught with psychedelic drugs, which are a genuine spiritual tool for me, I imagine I'd be in a heap of trouble.

Nope. Would still be in violation of federal law. In fact even in states that have legalized marijuana it is still in violation of federal law.
