Title: Anyone here live in Ireland?
Post by: Algernon on April 06, 2015, 07:56:52 AM
I'm surprised I haven't asked this before, considering I've been spending the last few months fruitlessly looking for people who can give advice on transitioning in this country - so far appear to be as rare as pink dog turds. So if anyone here lives on the Emerald Isle, make yourself heard! You must be somewhere!

I don't live in Ireland so my advice are limited, but have you checked on TENI meet ups? there is a few ones in Dublin I think this could be a way to get to know people and talk about Irish challenge.

Thanks very much to both of you, it's good to see there are support groups in my country even if they are a four-hour drive away - a long distance for car-less people. I need to start buttering up my dad, I think  ;D

Your wellcomed.

I talked with someone from TENI about transrights in ireland a few years ago when amnesty international published there report " the state decide who I am."  Ireland is one of the countries being mentioned in the rapport so they vere invited as well as someone from Norway. You can also read that however its very human right focused and its not exactly a transguide (+ its 2 years old so laws and such things can have changed) yet if you dont know about the system and rules it can be a good way to get started. My advice seeking threatment in a country is in general to get to know the system and be flexible then somethimes you can succed in thing you were told was not posible. Exemple a few years ago It was illigal to change your firstname from one gender to the other in my country (without sterilization) however it was not illigal to change your first name to something unisex and your middlename to the opposite gender so many would then change there firstname to something neutral they never used and then change there middlename to the name they would use.

There might be some groups closer:

but a youth group would be better imo...

you might think about contacting some groups via phone or email, maybe you could make some nice contacts this way...
